Just looks cool but tattoos take a lot of planning. Like when I was 16 I wanted a black dragon or something on my back and thank fuuuuck I didn't do it because I would be kicking myself today. Instead I spent 3 years planning exactly what I wanted and something I would love forever, chose the artist as carefully as the tat. At least piercings are reversible...except those stretched out plug ones eugh

Because it's their choice?
Although, my mom pierced my ears when I turned 1. She feels every girl should wear earrings lol |

I have 10 piercings. 6 on my ears, snake bites, and hip piercings. I didn't get them to fit in a group, that'd be stupid.
I just like the way they look. |

Theik2 wrote: I'm particularly interested in why people get their tongue, nose and other awkward places pierced? I think it is to fit in to a group or class of people. It's also because the mainstream told them to do it to be accepted or be more relevant, like the sheep they are. I find them disgusting, especally on a girl and she's got some in certain places....especally below. She riuns her natural beauty bit by bit with those things and she just doesn't look as attractive anymore. The ear rings are fine with me. But anywhere else...no. Just no. |

To feel unique? Who knows? No problem with it though, but it depends on how many and what they look like. As long as they're not stupid.

I have no piercings myself, but I've seem some people treat them as if getting them were an addiction. It's not like tattoos where the main reason to get them, especially for women, are daddy issues. People get piercings to rebel, to express, because it's new, because many piercings can be sexy (might have to do with them being shiny), or because they have a deep psychological issue in which they feel they have to damage their body in a certain way. I personally find nose studs hot.
I have seen many strange piercings; a bar through someone's thigh, unreasonably large facial subdermals, pierced nipples connected to piercings on the collarbone by chains (I don't know what I was thinking when I dated that girl...), hoops through the ends of the fingertips, and what I thought were bracelets near the ankle which actually turned out to be, well, bracelets near the ankle, but they were subdermal. One thing I would like to see is a hoop stretching out someone's tongue. |

Because they like it? Simple as that.
Though some have their own reason I guess. |

I think a better question would have been something like, "Body modification: Why or why not?" I chose to pierce & tattoo because I've seen myself that way since I was four years old. I saw it, & knew it was something I was going to do for myself some day (I felt the same way after my first ride on a motorcycle, too. It simply felt right). I took both very seriously, & waited until I knew exactly what I wanted where. I can't stress enough how little my decision had to do with anybody else.
