Why isn't there a cure for the common cold?!

I sweat myself up and drink hot drinks. Hot honey-lemonade (Or what you call it) works fine.
Melts the green stuff away.

There no point of seeing a doctor if you're cold, they're just going to give you anti-biotics when you have sore throat.
Just gargle salt water or Listerine.
When you have a cold, it should last a week and a half - 2 weeks.
Just stay home more often, drink lots of water.
Theres lots of home remedies for cold*

Evolution makes it impossible to ever make a cure. When it comes to easing the symptoms they have cough medicine and stuff for noses, I don't really know how effective the yare though. The best cure for the common cold is to just not get it, although that's pretty impossible.

Here's my version of how I experience common cold.

Day 1: Nose is runny
Day 2: Nose is less runny
Day 3: Nose is fine

Besides, if you are too reliant on medicine to keep you healthy (talking about common ailments, not serious ones like cancer etc) your body's immunity system will grow, while the viruses will grow stronger from resisting the medicine.

I enjoy reading people's contributions thank you very much. If you haven't got one GTFO

My statement was merely a joke. The reason the common cold cant be cured isnt the fact that it mutates, but a simple concept of extinction. If the common cold is completely eradicated that takes away a whole industry of jobs plus the cold virus would then be needed to be flash frozen in order to be used in case if a cold virus does appear. Sadly, none of this is possible as of now. Sorry if stuff didnt make sense, im on my third can of red bull studying for midterms and im taking a break.

I should explain why is said quit med school, since i go to an engineering college, we have a saying that people majoring in medicine should quit since bioengineering is taking over the industry plus u get paid more and in the courses are much easier, man im tired, time to study for midterms

I just recently had a cold. I knocked it out using the theory "laughter is the best medicine" - I streamed episodes of Modern Family until it was gone.

...Okay, and maybe I regularly took Mucinex-D and NyQuil. And drank a whole lot of peppermint tea with honey.

I once heard that you can't catch the same cold twice. Is this true? I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the topic...

You definitely can catch the same cold numerous times....... it's really a matter of your body eventually building immunity to it.

im pretty sure your confusing not catching a cold twice with getting hit by lightning, but i drink black coffee when i have a cold its probably a terrible choice but it makes me feel better, also i doubt there will be a cure anytime soon.

Caffeine is bad when you are sick.

There is a cure. It's something very rarely used. It's your "Immune System."

If you feel a cold starting, take some (I can't remember the spelling...Sounds like "Echinasia"), and it'll help fight it off. I rarely get colds, maybe because I have good hygiene. The worst I get is some mild allergies once every summer. Taking medication doesn't help in the long run, the viruses just grow more of their own antibodies to fight off the drug's antibodies.

Also doctors got so prescription happy with the antibiotics which really isn't a good thing. This as you said, wether referring to the same thing or not, makes our immune system rarely used..... in a sense. Weak and unable to defend on its own.............

There's no cure but you can still fight it to reduce the symptoms. The best way to fight it is to stay healthy and always get lots of rest. I find the more I exercise the more my body resists the cold virus. Taking lots of Vitamin C and Echinacea helps loads. And drink lots of tea.
