I believe in the possibility of an afterlife, mainly due to the anecdotal evidence of reincarnation, as explained by people like Shanti Devi and the life's work of Ian Stevenson and Jim B. Tucker.

But if someone dies it is impossible to bring them back to life. What is the spark which starts life is the greater question!

I believe death is ceasing to be.. some say that your 'energy' still exists after you 'die' and
transforms into something else.
Its a nice thought, but death is not so good. Its the loss of you, your experiences, family ties, your presence on earth etc.

I'm very much an Aubrey de Grey and anti-aging supporter, death caused be senescence( aging) is a disease , Lobsters,
calms and certain jellyfish have evolved past aging already.

What happens after death, what is death , thats hard to pin down.

after death your body undergoes a fascinating series of changes.
First it bloats up like a balloon then shrivels like a raisin.
Then tiny microbes you can't even see, but are on you right now start to devour your flesh and return all the elements in your body back to the soil.
Now, some people will tell you that your hair keeps growing, but that's that's a myth.
It's actually your head that shrinks.

In short from a medical standpoint, when the brain dies and ceases to function. (clinical brain death)

Now, we can get philosophical and/or religious about what happens next.

Some believe we wait in the ground until we are resurrected, and then we get judged, and go to heaven, or hell.

Others believe we come back as someone or something else, better or worse depending on our karma.

Then theres the belief that nothing happens after we die, and we cease to exist altogether. (eternal oblivion)

And there are many other beliefs that differ to varying degrees on what happens.

Death is simply when we die. After that is a matter of belief and speculation. Is there an afterlife? If so, what? Where will I be going? IS there an afterlife? But I digressed too away from the subject matter"What is death", not whats after or whats not. I think the person above me said from a medical standpoint, its when your brain dies. (clinical brain death).
