Basically The U.S Government (the congress) is holding hearings TODAY 11.16.11 & will soon pass a Bill that empowers corporations to censor the INTERNET !

SOPA, also known as the Protect IP Act, or the Internet Blacklist Legislation is starting to be discussed by the US government today. Basically, what the bill does, is give permission for companies who feel their copyright has somehow been infringed upon to file a complaint against a website and that website will effectively shut down. It’s censorship, is what it is. And it has the potential to affect sites ranging from Amazon and eBay to Tumblr and Twitter.

As written, they would betray more than a decade of US policy and advocacy of Internet freedom by establishing a censorship system using the same domain blacklisting technologies pioneered by China and Iran.

Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)

here's the OFFICIAL website that explains everything

This is just really disgusting. Seriously. Trying to censor the internet is defeating the purpose of the internet and I can just see it causing trouble in the long run.

actually it's not about porn etc its about big business and government blocking out anything they deam that infringes on copyright right infringement. It can be as simple as a blog that people do reviews by using screen caps, fan art pics etc or blocking accesses to torrent sites, data bases about games and how they work etc. Don't let the re tic fool you, if this passes than kiss the net good bye and the free flow of information, you like a certain site that has the balls to report certain things or news that mainstream news doesn't want to cover then that could be blocked as well. This does not have a damn thing to do with children nor will it ever, it's about controlling what people are allowed to learn, see or hear, Just remember a pic like this could be deemed illegal and I could be taken or blocked from the net for posting it.

so let me get this straight. they're basically passing a bill to "police" the internet? just how are you going to enforce that though? i mean, the internet is so broad, if someone was "infringing" just how exactly are you going to catch them- like they would willingly give you their ip address so that they could track you down, find out who you are, and sue you. if you stop all these websites though, isn't this invading our individual rights to be on whatever site we please? now, for porn sites and the like, i don't agree with- but that's just my opinion, but still... we say we're a democratic country, but are we really?

k, i'm done ranting now lol

Don't really care all that much. None of us Americans deserve to be free any more. Everyone is turning into a bunch of fuck tards who think they are worth more than they really are. I think everyone needs to get put down a little.

the same way they do in china they block sites with a firewall and block YOU from accessing sites from your computer unless you a proxy or secure ip, it's as simple as that.

So much for free speech. Internet is the main source of this, although I can't see this going through with the amount of opposition there will be from the public.
