Happy holiday to everyone!
We launched a Refer-A-Friend program last Thursday. If you refer Crunchyroll to your friends, then you will receive a $5 Amazon gift card per friend when your friend becomes a premium member (after free trial period). For now, the program is only for premium members but we plan to roll out to all users later.
The reason for such a program is straightforward: 1) to reward users who are already spreading the word for us; 2) motivate more users to tell their friends about Crunchyroll and legal anime/drama. This way, the marketing money is spent within the Crunchyroll family :)

I doubt my friends would join this site much less buy a membership cause CR doesn't really have anime they love or they already saw them before.

I wish you would live up to your word for premium membership... NO ADS; This really seems like an ad to me. You are advertising to us to get you some revenue in reward for $5 gift card. Please stop spamming my front page with this in that link bar.

You are right that free trial is not required at all and great if the user signs up right away. I just did not want to confuse readers who might think free trial users count as premium members as well in this referal program.

Darn, I've already gotten all of my friends on this site, that would be natural candidates, aside from ones that already naturally came to CR. Hmm, I guess I'll try a more aggressive round 2, but I'd probably need to gift a Boxee box to convince my remaining friends XD

Most of my friends don't check their e-mail. Can we maybe get a link instead, that credits our username? That way I can send it to my friends via Facebook message or PM on a forum. I can't get people to sign up via e-mail, in fact, I don't even know the e-mail addresses of many of my friends. But if I had a link to share with them, that could credit me, I would share it, for sure. I hope you can incorporate this...

Yeah, I know. You've been telling me on the top of every page for a few days now. Sometimes twice per page, but at least the second one has a close button. It sounds like a great program, but I've already referred all my friends who might be interested in CR. I'm done being notified, thanks.
And why Amazon cards of all things? Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier (for both the users and CR) to add an extra month to the membership? Nothing wrong with Amazon of course, just seems like a bit of a non-sequitur.
I hope this deal works out for you, but I'd like my ad-free CR back soon. -_-
