Plot

The drama is based on famous folklore.

During the Joseon era in the city of Miryang, Arang (Shin Min Ah) was the pure, beautiful, goodhearted daughter of a magistrate. She grew up without a mother, and was raised by a wicked caretaker who conspired to have her be raped and ruined by a servant. He attacked and she resisted, so he stabbed and killed her, and left her body to rot in the woods.

Her father the magistrate just believed that she dishonorably eloped with a man and so resigned his position swathed in shame. Thus the legend goes that every time a new magistrate comes to Miryang to fill the position, Arang’s vengeful ghost shows up to tell him her story and he flees in terror.

But one day a new magistrate comes to town — a young man by the name of Eun Oh (Lee Joon Ki). Arang appears to him like every other magistrate before him, but this man doesn’t flee, and instead sympathizes with Arang, and promises to find her killer and avenge her death.

Notes

1.First script reading took place at MBC Dream Center in Ilsan, South Korea on May 12. Shin Min-A , Lee Joon-Gi, Yeon Woo-Jin, Yoo Seung-Ho and other actors and actress attended. Prior to the script reading, director Kim Sang-Ho and screenwriter Jung Yoon-Jung explained the background ofor the drama and the reasons to make this drama.
2."Arang and the Magistrate" takes over the MBC Wednesday & Thursday 21:55 time slot previously occupied by "I Do, I Do".
3. Filming began May 23, 2012 at Namyangju Studio Complex. The first scene filmed involved A-Rang (Shin Min-A), who is on a roof, watching Eun-Oh (Lee Joon-Gi) walk on the street below with his servant Dol-Soe (Kwon Oh-Jung).

Lee Joon-ki to come back with "Arang and the Magistrate"

Freshly discharged actor Lee Joon-ki will come back with drama "Arang and the Magistrate".According to his management, Interactive Media Mix, he said, "I am nervous and excited about this drama as I feel it was meant for me".

He continued, "I hope it can burn up the passion in me that was kept under wraps for the past two years".Lee Joon-ki's come back drama is a fantasy/historical melodrama about female spirit Arang (Sin Min-ah) and magistrate Eun-oh (Lee Joon-ki).

The drama aims to air in July and will start filming in May. It will follow Lee Seung-gi and Ha Ji-won's "The King 2 Hearts".

Lee Jun Ki to make a drama comeback next February

Actor Lee Jun Ki, who is currently gearing up towards his military service completion in February 2012, will be appearing on the small screen through a serious drama after two years. It’s been told that Lee Jun Ki has been working closely with his long-time manager to set up his schedules after his discharge. They are currently in the talks of arranging a large fan meeting in Japan.

Lee Jun Ki’s official date of discharge as a sergeant has been confirmed for February 16th next year. The actor has chosen not to give himself time off to adjust and will instead dive straight back into his regular acting schedules. There are still three months left until his official discharge; however, the popular actor has already received over ten proposals as leads for both upcoming movies and TV drama series.

As a way to ease back into the entertainment industry, Lee Jun Ki chose his first drama series to be one that will allow him show an image that is most familiar to his fans and mass public.

Lee Jun Ki will also be directly involved with the planning and structure of his large scale fan meeting in Japan.

Lee Jun Ki’s representative revealed, “Lee Jun Ki is extensively preparing for his discharge in order to begin his acting promotions straight away. He’s picking his productions carefully so that he can approach his fans in a comfortable manner.”

The role he has to play is the Great Jade Emperor who is free and cheerful but unapproachable and will add weight to the drama. He is also the most important character that offers the key to the adventure Arang (Sin Min-ah) and Eun-oh (Lee Joon-ki) embarks on.
