What did you always play when you were a kid?
Posted 6/11/07
I played a lot when I was a kid. Here are some of the list:

hide & seek
tag
freeze tag
basketball
dodgeball
kickball
Family computer: Super Mario Bros.
SuperNintendo
Arcade games

(1)Agawang Sulok ("Stealing Corners" or Get a Corner) - Number of Players: 5, 7, or 9. A rectangular playground is marked off on the ground or floor. Diagram A is for five players, B for seven players, and C for nine players.

All the players but one (the tagger) stay in the corner and on the bases. The tagger stands in the middle of the ground. The players in the corners will try to exchange places by dashing across from place to place. The tagger must try to secure a corner or base by rushing to any when it is vacant.
In order to confuse the tagger, the players on the bases may leave their bases and suddenly rush back to them, as if stealing a base. Whenever the tagger secures a base, the odd player becomes the tagger for the next game.
This game is sometimes called "Vende, Vende Candela."

(2)Luksong-Tinik ("Jumping Over the Thorns") - Two players serve as the base of the tinik (thorn) by putting their right or left feet together (soles touching gradually building the tinik). A starting point is set by all the players, giving enough runway for the players to achieve a higher jump, so as not to hit the tinik. Players of the other team start jumping over the tinik, followed by the other team members.

(3)Patintero ("Getting In and Out of the Box" or Three Nights) - 6 to 8 or more players.
Outdoors. The players are divided into two teams of equal number. The ground is marked off in a rectangle about five to six meters, divided into four equal parts. Diagram A is for 6 players, B for 8 or more players.

Winning the toss entitles the players on that team to be runners. The taggers stand on lines 1, 2, and 3. Number 1 can go anywhere to tag the runners. The objective of the runners is to get through all the lines (1, 2, 3) back and forth without being tagged. Taggers 1 and 2 tag the runners as they cross their lines or as they get near them. As soon as one of the runners crosses line 3, he returns to line 1 and calls out, "Tubig!" This means a night (a point) is scored in favor of his team. The team which scores three consecutive "nights" (or three points) is the winner, and will be the runners of the next game.
If a runner is tagged while crossing a line or while trying to cross, the teams exchange places.

(4) Piko ("Hopping") - The players stand behind the edge of a box, and each should throw their cue ball. The first to play is determined depending on the players' agreement (e.g. nearest to the moon, wings or chest). Whoever succeeds in throwing the cue ball nearest to the place that they have agreed upon will play first. The next nearest is second, and so on.

(5) Sipa ("Hacky Sack") - The object being used to play the game is also called sipa. It is made of a washer with colorful threads attached to it. The sipa is then thrown upwards for the player toss using his/her feet. Sipa is like an urban Pinoy version of hacky sack.

(6) Taguan - hide and seek in American.

(7) Sungka ("Mancala") - The objective of the game is to amass stones or cowrie shells in the player's home base (bahay) by continuously distributing the shells around smaller holes until the player runs out of shells to distribute. The person who collects the most shells in his or her bahay wins.

(8) Tumbang Preso ("Prisoner") - 5-10 or more players. Each player is provided with a large throw-away object (could be slippers or a shoe) called "pamato". An empty tin or plastic container (the size of an 8 or 12 oz. tins) is placed in upright position 6 or 8 meters from the throwing line. A player is chosen as the prisoner, guarding the empty tin or container.
The other players stand at the throwing line. They take turns throwing their "pamato" at the empty tin. Everybody tries to knock the tin down. As soon as the can is knocked down, the prisoner must put back the tin in upright position before he can tag the any of the players attempting to recover their "pamato". The prisoner can tag the players while recovering their "pamato" within the throwing line only.
After each throw, a player must recover his "pamato". Should he be tagged by the prisoner before he reaches the throwing line, he becomes the prisoner in the next game.
(9) Pog (I don't know if people still remember this game)

(10) Text cards (a pinoy game involving 3 kinds of cards (one for u, one for an opponent, and one to even things out) that u flick to the air while bets are already in place on how much cards you willing to risk/gain. )

Tag and Hide&seek were my favorites, I still play it today[with my little brother]

That stuff never gets old. All you really need is a bunch of people, and good place to play.
Playing manhunt at night was fun.
When I play games like this, I go all out. I don't care if i get my clothes dirty, or have to crawl around in the dark. I'll do it if i have to win.

snowball fights never get old (unless you live on some snowy mountain)

The more the better

I often played Lego ( if you know...) built a city or something like that =)
And I often played with my brother and my best friend some kind of RPG, my brother was the evil mage and my friend and I were the heroes.. that was funny... Than we played very much with our bikes (or without): Police, horses, some kind of adventures... and.. what a shame.. I played with barbies, but I often cut them their hair, because I had thought it will grown again -.-(I was like 4 years old...).. later we played something with them like drug smuggler, arms dealer or assasin... yeah crazy shit O_O! That's why they all get fad-.-

I'm sad that the new generation of kids often plays with computers or with the other gender at the age of.. 10 or 11 O_o .. I had other things in my mind than that.. really sad :/

In Singapore, and for people of my age
we used to play

1) block catching - cos Singapore is full of flats
2) five stones
3) rope jumping
4) trading Power Rangers, Idol, Dragonball cards
5) Hop Skotch
6) Eagle catch Chicks
7) Police and Thief
8) Hide & Seek - but the seeker usually gives up cos the flat is too darn big
9) Fighting with long plastic rulers
10) Pepsi Cola 1 2 3
