"...It also sweeps in a separate bill, sponsored in the Senate by Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), to make it a felony to stream videos or mp3s of copyrighted films and songs..." <--------- That's the thing that disturbs me the most. Does it imply that I would be charged if I were to listen to a song online that is copyrighted? How in God's name would I know what and what is not copyrighted (well I could just simply assume that all is copyrighted), but wouldn't that bring down the industry of music, for example? I stumble upon new music through youtube videos, and other vids and streams..and not because I'm rich enough to afford any CD I think I might like...just like that. And how would they apply this law ? For it to make sense it would have to be globally applied and I doubt that this would be possible.
Looks just like any other attempt to control the people a titbit more. The internet is awesome because it's 'free', you can enjoy many things and see many things that you would never get the chance to experience in real life, and...yeah...anonymity (although that doesn't exist much any more) is what made the internet a place where everybody could hang out, regardless of nation, ethnicity, etc.

The level of censorship being discussed in our government nowadays is honestly disturbing. This bill essentially makes websites guilty until proven innocent if I'm understanding it correctly, and that's not how our legal system is supposed to work.

I do agree with the idea of stopping piracy, our generation has grown far too accustomed to getting things for free that people have devoted their time, money, and even lives to creating. Seriously, music artists don't get to live for free any more than we do. However, we need to find a middle ground, and I think that half the problem is that big companies are unwilling to create reasonable alternatives. I would pay a dollar to stream a movie after it's released to DVD. I have not and will not buy DVD's, they are not worth 20 dollars to me ever. This includes anime, shit is way too overpriced.

Sites like crunchyroll, and netflix, etc where you can pay a reasonable amount of money for a specific service targeted at exactly what you want is where we need to go in the future. I truly hope that this bill gets shut down, because it will destroy the internet as we know it, and I don't mean "aww sadface I can't get free stuff online anymore", I mean huge chunks of the internet just being shut down, much of it things that aren't at fault, but because it has some minor association with a website that's deemed "rogue" by this bill, it will also get shut down. How stupid would it be if CR got shut down because of posts on this forum that mention a website that has copyrighted content illegally available on it? Under this bill that could actually happen.
