Bringing up the past I see. You obviously lost hundreds of dollars..... Try to overreact a little more you whiny kid. They even gave us free games as an apology. Stop being an ungrateful bitch.

Have fun with your 3 updates in a roll, each taking 40 minutes.

Followed by a 2-Day long maintenance mode.

Followed by a 2 Month long down time.

Followed by a second hack on downtime for a week.

Yep, sure sounds great in Sony's closet.

EDIT:

It's not actually free when you lose 2 Months on PSN and you already own all those miserable games that are 7$ at Gamestop.

Waiting all month to use that one huh?

From this point on, you're probably going to post images and gifs in succession.

.......wow a troll thread already and the memory cards are only needed to save games as far as i am concerned. I will still buy hard copies in no way buy digital with current bandwidth caps. A 32gig memory stick for 119.00...well now i will wait 2 years for the price to go down, I just love how people assume prices or generics will never come to market.

I'm just wondering as to why they started so high in the first place.

Internal Memory should be a given in 2012, It just seems like Sony is trying to balance out losing so much money on the Vita.

250$ for the Vita was always fishy.

in all honesty they are bracing for the hombrew possibly with people making back ups on the system. The psp go is fully hack able with homebrew with 16 gig memory flash then 32 gig stick which is one the reasons they stopped making them. They don't want some walking around with 40 games on the system that they didn't pay for or that are just back-ups. This is just a guess however and yeah i don't like it myself one bit i buy things once, hell I am pissed off at the no umd back up for the vita but it's Sony, they put their name down on the stop online piracy act after all.

Nobody actually cares about it being proprietary.

They just wondering about the costs, if it was 10$ for 20GB then I wouldn't have a problem, or priced similarly to an SD card.

And I don't know why companies think this will bring down pirates, look at the PS3, numerous redundant updates...and it still got pwned.

All this does is make it harder for the honest people to enjoy the handheld.

These memory cards are needed, without them.

You're missing half the Vita, as it is said to contain patches, updates, DLC, Demos, profile and such, pictures, videos, bookmarks and cookies for the browser.

I just wish they priced it more...reasonably.

whats reasonable? from a business point of view $10 for 20 gigs is outrageous. Since they use solid state memory you can't compare the price to physical drives like HDD's for computers.

If you compare the price per gig to say Iphone memory Sony Vita memory is rather cheap.

The increase in price for the iphone goes
$100 for 16 extra gigs or $6.25 per gig
$200 for 48 extra gigs or $4.17 per gig

the PS Vita memory is considerably cheaper when you get into the larger amounts of memory

$44.99 for 8 gigs or $5.62 per gig
$69.99 for 16 gigs or $4.37 per gig
$119.99 for 32 gigs or 3.75 per gig

The xbox 360 512 MB card is $20 which would be $40 per gig

Whether you like it or not the prices are what they are because sony has the ability to determine the prices of their products and can use whatever pricing strategy they want.

SD cards are cheaper because they are licensed by other companies to produce. and ultimately had to compete with like 11 other styles of memory.
Sandisk has a 16gig SD card on the bestbuy website for $49.99 which is $3.12 per gig which isn't a very far cry from the sony prices.
Sandisk also has another memory card on bestbuys site that is 4649.99 for 64 gigs which is $10.16 per gig

so $119.99 for 64gigs of memory seems pretty reasonable to me

Damn Sony always making it's own proprietary memory cards that no one uses but them. Remember their purple memory sticks for Vaio's or their Cameras? Now they invent another memory card that you MUST buy to use their system. This reminds me of how they sell printers in stores for $100 then sell ink cartridges for $25-$35 each, except in Sony's case their bilking everyone for a required "accessory". I really hope third party manufacturers make a compatible card quickly for half the cost. Hell, I can get an 8 gig Sandisk thumb drive from walmart for $12!

As for rationalizing the costs of comparable tech. They could just have easily used existing SD cards.

Rationalizing the price and comparing it to other things is the exact same thing the people who are complaining about it being too expensive are doing. the only difference is they use numbers to say something is too expensive. Where as I used the numbers to prove that they aren't really as outlandishly priced as people say they are. The fact is that if you want something and the price is set you can either buy it or not. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it bad. The problem with SD cards and the such is that there are so many different types out there and they have such different speeds that if you go and buy some cheap SD card for $10 it's the bottom of the quality line and won't offer all the things that you expect from something more expensive.

IF the cards are say class 6 cards or class 10 equivelent then the prices of the memory sticks would be worth the price because a comparable sd card with that rating would be the same price. But people are complaining just about the price and expect to get some high performance memory card for the price of a cheap one. Just because you can buy something for a certain price doens't mean that it's as good as one that costs considerably more. Anyone who has used a digital SLR camera would say the same thing. If you want to do everything that all the new cameras do then you have to spend $1000 or more for the camera and then a couple hundred more for a memory stick in order to get full use out of the product.

Unfortunately none of the pictures of the sony vita cards show their read write speed and the only information people are going off of is the size of the memory for the price.

As for the using of existing cards if it's just as easy to use one vs the other then using their own design makes of no concequence. With every console out there using their own type of media it seems funny to me that people are compaining about how this new one uses one thats designed just for it.

okay i will give you that there, if there is dlc, patches etc then you might need a bigger memory stick. Videos are another thing.. i do believe that the vita will be flash enabled with apps so Netflix and cr app are most likely if the 3ds got one. Your not the only one i really do wish they where down priced more but in the current market I believe in a wait see game, Sony has made some mistakes so if they don't make up from this one then they will have to release models with sticks or flash memory. On the piracy side even though the ps3 is fully hacked i don't think people are downloading 20-50 gig iso's per game, believe me i have been there and tried. Your isp isn't going to catch on awfully fast on something like that, now making back-ups of friends games or rented games that's another story.
