Christmas colours:

Red, associated with Santa's suit. Why is Santa red? Ask Coca Cola lol
Green, the tree is green and this may be symbolic of that
Gold, given to baby Jesus
Silver, also given to baby Jesus
White, snow is white even though it never really snows on xmas day :(

More modern decorations are blue or even pink but those things are untraditional and not very christmasy imo > - <

I would have to agree with MordernDayZombie's link, though. And I believe you are correct with the Gold part. Jesus recieved the Bright Morning Star and symbolically stars of such a nature would be considered what humans considered most precious back then - Gold. Silver? Romans loved it. It's nice to speculate none the less...

Interesting. We put a star on the top our tree instead of an angel.

Me too.

Also, @thread: Green is a pretty awesome colour, and red is just pretty. Or that Italian stuff.

Red: Blood of the elves that make the toys
Green: The feeling of envy that fills the elves when Santa takes their toys

The colors were messages from the elves until Santa and capitalism found out and turned them to their advantage. Why do you think Santa is red? If you were trying to sneak into houses, would you really wear red? No, of course not. It's the capitalism, man. We must free the elves and send them on the underground reindeer sledge to the great South Pole.
