Back in the day when the painters' guilds had clout it was probably a requirement.

When the newspaper unions had clout it was black and white but nowadays these colors are too literal (unless you're totally blind to colors as certain animals are) and grey never caught on or got a toehold into our psyche (too ambivalent, I guess).

Blue and grey fought over it 150 +/- years ago and bloodied up the landscape (USA) trying to perpetuate states' rights over federalism.

Yellow appeared briefly but lost its nerve, ran away, and hid. It appears infrequently as body covering for bananas and squash.

Orange became too unnerving to tolerate. Most of its supporters became too agitated during festivities and had to be institutionalized in prisons or group homes for the mentally unbalanced.

Purple connotated a negative demeanor also. I see it used a lot around here painted on posts or trees (To those not familiar to the ways of Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Oklahoma property owners this is a popular color denoting "keep out" or "go home, grow your own damn marijuana").

Pink seems to connotate a fashion statement or something of a societal norm being tested or detested. And I guess it looks nice on a Christmas tree provided the viewer is filled with alcoholic effervescence more so than joy.

Brown is the color of tree bark. Once upon a time its usage was so extreme a person couldn't see the forest for the trees so this color was banned by EPA to prevent further confusion.

Red is the blood of your enemies Green is just the decoration you leave at their funeral. Twisted and Morbid you might ask? Indeed..

Now, I wonder why Christmas trees are either green and/or white. Now, I question the color of everything. Now, I wonder why Santa is in red and white, but where is his green belt? What about his boots?
