Christmas is a memorial to the time when Jesus stepped down to earth to be born as a baby and then willingly give His life to deliver us from our sins. God gave us Jesus because He so loved the world (all mankind) and is graciously merciful. Share thoughts...quotes or verses.... about the birth or the foretelling of the birth of Jesus, the Messiah..the promised Deliverer.

I'll start

For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace....Isaiah 9:6

Christmas can't happen without Chirst which means being born into this world and walking on this earth just like us. He went through everything we are going through pain, betrayal, loneliness, rejection, starvation, dehydration, and even tiredness. Then He died for all of our sins so we may go to Heaven. What an awesome God! :DD That's is what Christmas is about remembering of what Jesus Christ did for all of us sinners.

The Birth of Jesus Foretold

In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"

The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God."

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

One of the best things about the virgin birth of Christ is that it reveals to mankind that it is impossible for the flesh, for the power of man to bring about salvation. That took a supernatural intervention; that took God doing what we could not do, by His becoming a man and dying for us. Why wasn't Jesus born of two parents? Because first of all, mankind cannot save himself and all men have sinned and it was God’s way of showing us that man was helpless to save himself and that God alone could be the source and the author of our salvation so...there was no other way. Salvation had to begin with God and had to come from God ....not born of man, but from God,

I'm not sure if this fits or not, but I LOVE the season of Advent. As a family we all feel like our Advent devotions ALWALYS draw us closer to God in a very special way each year, as we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. This year I have especially enjoyed Christmas hymns, and what a time we live in! With the use of YouTube you can be exposed to many different kinds of artists and music. Some of my favorites were "Mary Did You Know" by Divine Touch, Pavarotti's "O Holy Night", "What Child is This" by Mahalia Jackson, Enya's "Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel", "In the Bleak Midwinter" by Julie Andrews, "Once in Royal David's City" by Sufjan Stevens, Boney M's "Mary's Boy Child", and the Eccentric Opera's "I Wonder As I Wander".

I always love the richness of the depth of the hymns! (And I realize that not all of those were hymns...) (((((HUGS))))) sandi

Christmas is the day Jesus was born into this world and died on the cross for our sins. The day to remember what Jesus did for us. We still can give gifts and what not/. But do not forget the real reason for this season!

Continuing w/ a few words about ....Isaiah 9:6

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given
…”

Amazed by these words: “unto us” The most precious gift that God the Father could possibly give "us"... His people, believers in Jesus Christ.

But, we weren't always believers. We are unworthy recipients of this eternal gift. Enemies, rebellious children, haters of God by nature, dead in sin and happy consumers of iniquity would be accurate descriptions of the “us” in this verse. Never lose the wonder of “unto us.”

Think... for a minute if the eternal Son of God had not been given, if He had not come. There would be no good news of the gospel. Perhaps there would be cures for certain fatal diseases, but there would be no cure for sin. There would be no Immanuel.... God with us (as minuscastro said above) . Instead of being very near and accessible.. God would be far, far away. The doors to God’s throne room would not be open and welcoming... but would say, “No beggars nor sinners allowed.” There would be no victory over death... no refreshing bread of life.. no light of the world,...no expectation of eternal life.Thank you Lord for sending US your son. TG

BTW...not preaching... just sharing and thanks to all for contributing these thoughts.... reflections.... verses.... songs.. etc. to this topic
