For example, the actual word for wolf-man/werewolf is lycanthropy.

As probably most of us, manga-ka tend to use the same character designs in their new works from the previous ones (Inuyasha's human form is essentially recycling the character design/artwork/appearance of the lead males of Takahashi's prior works of Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, and Ranma 1/2, respectively).

so, what you're saying is that they're redesigning, hybrids...?

Not hybrids but redesigned characters.

I'm not really sure what your point is, but I'll take a guess: you'd rather the manga-ka use new character designs for new stories rather than reuse previous ones (albeit with slight changes).

From what I've heard, manga-ka aren't paid very well. Using a familiar character design makes good business sense since time really is money in this case. I'm sure there are other reasons.

Anyway, I agree that it would be nice to have new character designs for new stories, however, story is more important to me. I'm willing to forgive recycled designs so long as the new story is good and sufficiently different from what I've read before. If the story is recycled too... well, then I won't waste my time.

No, I am not saying that. I'm only asking what is the term for it. I would think the closest is motif. Even though I will agree with what you are saying, it's pointless to hope (I think) because I think virtually most manga I have read has had many series done by the same authors (Since it has the same author, Fairy Tail's Natsu is recycled design of Groove Adventure Rave's Haru while Lucy is Rave's Elie, especially the boobs).

Got it. I'd say motif would be the right word as well.

...I dunno what you mean exactly...

But I have seen trends and physical themes that are re-used in many Anime and Manga...
