Is it true that men are polygamous by nature??? why???

(The author clearly requested a second part to your answer, ie. 'why?' Please provide your opinions to support your concluded statements. From what I see, these conclusive statements are often summarised into a single word answer. - Fae)

From what I learned from my psychology class, the answer is...yes. We were studying human behaviors in regards to emotions and such and this topic came up and, from what I gather, man is naturally polygamous due to a sort of weird insecurity. Basically, man cannot know for sure that a child is actually his (since he doesn't know 100% for certain that his wife didn't just go and sleep with someone else the night before). This leads to a sense of insecurity that leads him to sleep around with a lot of women in order to insure that at least one of the children is his and that his genes will be passes down to prosperity

I doubt it's made up, even more by MEN. Girls don't exactly flock to you when you label yourself as polygamous and insecure. Grow a brain or get an opinion guys. Don't sheep around, makes the forum look retarded.

It is hard to define what 'nature' you are talking about. In a philosophical cum logic and reasoning sense, it could be a cognitive idea in man, monitored by their own impulses, urges, imagination and thought process that cause the effect of 'polygamy'. If, by some people who follow closely according to their subscribed religious teaching (which would contradict the reason and logic theory anyway), that teaches them about the 'nature' in accordance to what God created them to be, then the definition would be another mark off. Essentialists of science and research could offer another idea to determine the definition of 'nature' with relevant findings in genetics, DNA, and stimulated experiments.

Whatever the different views offer, I would prefer to stick with the fact that not all men are created the same. The mysteries of life and nature (environmental nature) would be best left to be appreciated than to be dissected. Because then you would have even more theories, and nothing would change if no man can disprove another.

Biologically, yes. Through logic, yes.
I can compare human reproduction to a teacher with a basket of eggs handing out one egg to each student. The student is only allowed to have one egg and take care of it until it hatches.
Men pass out an constantly reproducing amount of seeds to women who can only be pregnant once at a time.
Of course, men will range from having no mate to having several female mates depending on their traits. The more superior men will attract and have more mates while one that is inferior may have none. Like lions.

Even in the recent history, men with high power or wealth would have lots of wives. However, human emotions come into play and have evolved over time because of our unique recording and communication abilities. Since nobody wants to feel insecure, share what they care about, and compete for one thing; they are going to want to have the highest priority (first wife) or, better yet, the only wife. The attraction and influence from movies, literature, plays, music, other forms of art, and even word of mouth have romanticized and redefined love and relationships in modern history. The concept of one person you care about dedicating their emotions and mating ritual solely to you gives you comfort, self-confidence, security, and symbolizes the strength of your relationship/love. In modern times, monogamy is bad since it helps population control even more although it goes against the survival of the fittest theory. If the superior male specimens have numerous mates while the inferior do not, each generation of the human species will gradually be genetically superior.

I'm sure seems as if I think love and monogamy is bad and that it sounds like I want a super race like what Hitler said or something. From a logical/scientific viewpoint, I believe it's biologically productive to a species. But, I also have emotions and influence of culture/society/environment; so, of course, I agree with monogamy since I like the modern idea of love and romance.

So, men are naturally polygamous and it is logically beneficial to most species.
But, men should be monogamous since human society and technology gives us the freedom of being monogamous. Not to mention monogamy is the social ideal in our time, which I prefer as a consequence.

Well, its human nature to reproduce as much as possible. Well, specifically male nature. Marraige is an unnatural institution.

But marriage is what society tells us we must do, and so we do it. And so it's become natural.

Besides, I don't care if men are naturally polygamous. So are women. Women cheat on their husbands too. We too need to spread all the best seed and make the strongest babies, it's the most basic nature.
