Go cut yourself little white boy.

Lick it.

No, most people don't realise it. In a cut down you feel almost like a robot and the emotions you feel are sadness and anxiety; you lose all motivation in life and your self esteem is incredibly low. There will be times when you have a break down and cry.

Depression is altered or non-normal thoughts, behavior, feelings that can will affect directly or eventually your physical well-being

This only happens when you lack the confident to think it rationally and may have been neglected by emotional support of family, friends, love-ones or spiritually.

It's the CORE-SELF versus OUT SIDE FACTORS. Best recommended remedy, is TRUST in ONE SELF and GOD for there's always HOPE you just got to believe and play the game until the last second stopped.

Depression arises from feelings of sadness and the perception that oneself is inferior to others. It inevitably leads to thoughts of melancholy and suicide, if left unchecked.

The only real cure to depression is willpower, regrettably. Depression also destroys your will to live, however, so you'll know you're pretty much screwed if you ever develop depression. It's a vicious cycle that many people never manage to break out of until they take their own life.

This problem is tremendously exasperated by the fact the typical reaction loved ones have to confessions of depression is anger and stress. This only speeds up the process of depression consuming someone and greatly reduces the chances that person will ever seek out help again.

Do people hate you? Kill yourself. But killing yourself will upset them even more? Kill yourself painfully. People think your killing yourself because you're a coward? Pour salt in your wounds while you're killing yourself painfully. This is the demented thought process that passes through the mind of someone who is depressed.

If you don't think like this, you're probably not depressed.

Can you be "depressed" and not know it? What exactly is depression to you and how does it affect you?

does being cynical mean ur depressed? i sometimes think life is pointless which is prob the case. in a 1000 years will anyone even know you ever existed? am i depressed or am i tripping?

its such a gray area. A while back i was pretty upset about a new career i was starting and a bunch of other stuff. I didnt think of my self as depressed just stressed out a bit and kinda down but i would still have plenty of fun here and there. Then i started to get headaches every day and they just got worse and worse. I went and had a million tests done thinking it was everything from allergies to a brain tumor. Well i finally saw a doctor who asked me about everything in my life and how i was doing with it and she told me that the headaches were caused by depression. I thought she was crazy but she prescribed a couple different things for me and within two weeks i felt way less stressed out and bummed out about everything and most importantly my headaches went away.

anyways, my point is that its really really hard to tell if you have real deal depression. I would say that if being down about stuff and stressed out about stuff is ruining your quality of life or causing physical problems like headaches then its time to go talk to a doctor~

Definitely. I've had looooong conversations with the most depressed people in the world. It gets you really peeved at first because they will constantly talk about them self or a stupid problem that isn't a big deal. Usually a trigger behind it all or a much bigger problem in the workings. You can't help a depressed person. They can only help them self. I recommend not even wasting your time.

Change your diet.
I've heard that certain things you eat can mess with chemicals in your head and make you think differently.
i.e junk food, mcdonalds, soda

Get busy.
If you have too much free time you think about why you live but if you're too busy then it won't cross your mind.

Honestly it could be hormones. If you are going through puberty often that can lead to that kind of thought pattern. I was like that for awhile and sometimes I still am but if you find something important like friends or hobbies it really takes the stress away

Depression happens. I usually get down when I realize how hard I worked my ass off in college and grad school, and then look at the just barely average salary I get. It easily covers the bills, but there isn't too much room left for fun or myself. To me, that stings like failure. It's the one thing in my life that bothers me a lot. But, it is what it is. I deal with it, and don't let it drag me down.

I've been in and out of depression throughout my entire life. At the end of the day, it boils down to you to motivate yourself to dig yourself out of your rut. You have to help yourself and WANT to help yourself get better.

mental illness is serious, and should be treated like any other health problems. There is way too much harmful stigma attached to it that needs to be silenced.
If you suspect you are depressed see a doctor and or a trained therapist (or both) and get them to evaluate your symptoms. depression like many or most mental illnesses is not an acute health issue but rather a chronic problem, so as such there are no speedy quick fixes.

Yes like anything else in life it requires work and ones own efforts but it is by know means something as simple as being in a rut or just being down. It is not something that is a faze nor is it due to boredom. Way too many people here do not know what they are talking about and giving really bad advice. It is by no means a personal choice to have a mental illness that you can just make better by the power of positive thinking, it requires treatment like any other health issues. And like other health issues it does take commitment, and that is where one has to constantly struggle and get help from their support systems.

So many people here mistaking depression with average sadness or feelings of inadequacy...If you have not been diagnosed by a professional and have just diagnosed yourself after having a bad day, you most likely do not have a mental health problem.

There really are some ignorant uneducated people here who are quick to judge what they do not understand...its really sad to hear the nonsense that is being put forth... many here are young and may be excused for not understanding..but I see so many 'adults' here who are absolutely wrong and foolish...and quite frankly should be ashamed of themselves.

i hope none of you lose loved ones to mental health problems or ever experience illness yourself.

*med student by the way
