The kind of curry I like best is Japanese curry because it's sweeter than Thai, Indian or most other types of curry. You can get Japanese curry in different levels of spiciness, it's just that the base blend of spices in Japanese curry makes it relatively sweet. That mild, sweet taste I think is so awesome with rice and chicken.

Never had Japanese style but my mom used to make chicken curry every once in a while and I have Jamaican curry about 2-3 times a month.

I tried Indian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Malaysian curry.
Japanese curry is my favorite.

Love curry, and I cook it all the time. My great-grandmother spent several years in India back before World War I, and I still cook several of her curry recipes, which are still distinctly different from any type of curry I've ever had in an Indian restaurant.

I like Japanese curries a lot, but mostly as a change from the Indian/Thai/Indonesian styles I have often a couple of times a week. Distinctly different flavor, but nice, especially with katsu.

Meow.

Oh, and someone talked about an unpleasant soapy flavor in a curry -- if you taste something like that, it almost always means that they used fresh ginger, and 1. the ginger might have been getting a little old, and 2. they almost certainly did NOT cook the ginger long enough, or didn't chop it finely enough.

So it was probably a mistake on the part of the cook or prep chef. Don't give up on curry because of one error like that
