I don't understand why you guys have subscriptions for $10 to watch episodes when "they come out in jap" when i can see an episode at a free website 5 days before its added on your site... If you want to compete then actually have some kind of advantage to free sites. Makes no sense to me. I know its all about supporting the producers of the anime but if we pay you then I'd assume you pay them too. I was subscribed a while back for a while but right now you offer nothing but ripoffs. Pay to watch something a week after I would otherwise be able to watch on a free site a week before you post it...... good deal............

I have to agree.

Thankfully there's still enough true 1-2h simulcasts here to keep me subscribing, but there's absolutely no value in the delaycasts for me. I actually used to pay extra for my subscription (by buying monthly / quarterly), but the decrease in true simulcasts has made me purchase a yearly subscription instead (with a discount)...

A lot of the delaycasts this season were the result of CR licensing series from Sentai rather than from Japan. What I would like to see is CR licensing series with Sentai rather than from them, as this would open up more regions on their titles and allow for more true simulcasts rather than delaycasts.

Don't know what's wrong with CR these days. They usually get from US Licensors instead of Japanese producers like they used to. Probably they're lazy to get from them and use the lazy approach to get stimulcasts. Mind them that they're are more audiences worldwide compared to US, 3X more than US, if done correctly. All I get here is all Yaoi titles and I personally hate them.

As for the delaycasts, you can say that it is a ripoff since they said on the Free Trial page that most stimulcasts are 1 hour late. A week getting stimulcast even with Premium account is okey if CR reduces the price, but apparently they stay the same price.

It basically comes down to the tired old "why pay for something I can steal for free" argument. If you want to rationalize it like that, then that's up to you.

Do we want delaycasts? No, but unfortunately sometimes the choice comes down to either having a delay or not having it here at all. We could go for the latter but we know there are many people that are willing to wait to watch it through our service since we provide a lot of things the illegal alternatives can't. If you don't like that there are delaycasts, then don't watch the delaycasts. Instead watch the within an hour simulcasts if they interest you.

Since we do not like having delaycasts, we will continue working towards removing the delays as we get in a better position to demand these things. Money talks so a better position basically means having enough money where licensing companies can't say no.

The basic things we negotiate for are Worldwide streaming rights, ability to Simulcast within an hour of Japanese broadcast and ability to keep all episodes available for as long as we still hold streaming rights. So hopefully we'll be able to get all of these things more consistently in the future.

I realize that there's no choice for a lot of titles, I'm just hoping that this won't lead to CR choosing to have a delaycast because the rights are either cheaper or easier to obtain (which I assume other US companies have been doing). I actually think the new season of Digimon Xros Wars falls into that category, but hopefully it's just a one off with Toei being a bitch and not the start of a trend...

On another note the marketing talk of "within an hour simulcasts" doesn't even hold true anymore, ever since the change in Daylight Savings (except for Naruto/Bleach)... But that's the matter for another thread, which never had a reply.

Not that it matters, but I'm in it for the device support. It's kind of nice laying in bed and waving around the Roku remote and picking out what I want to watch... oh yeah, I'm lazy like that. As far as "delay-casts" go, I don't mind waiting a few days or a week or whatever since I tend to watch a lot of anime.

If you're paying $10, you're obviously not at Crunchyroll. Even the month-to-month anime membership is only $6.95, and subscribing annually, as I do, knocks that down to $5 per month.

As to advantages, I can plop down in front of my TV and watch Crunchyroll via my Roku. Can you name a single fansub site someone can do that with? I seriously doubt you'll find any fansub sites with an iOS app either, and unless one of the video providers they depend on to host their content supports HTML 5 video, you won't be watching it via the browser, either.

Another item: Do these fansubs come out on a dependable schedule, or do some series lag behind, based on whether interest in the series waxes and wanes? When watching these fansubs via streaming, can you depend on the quality of the video being the same week to week? Unless things have changed drastically in the past 1.5 year, I know the answer to those questions are "yes" and "no", respectively.

Digimon delay I believe is because of Toei. They aren't very accustomed to digital distribution so they need time. It's the same with One Piece and Toriko so I'm pretty sure they have never done a true digital simulcast.

I'll have to look into the Daylight Savings delay.

Your anti-crunchyroll tirade with clearly false information is getting old.

Fact: Premium Members are increasing, not decreasing.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-11-30/tv-tokyo/crunchyroll-has-nearly-70000-paid-subscribers

You can stop with the repeated "Crunchyroll is lazy" and "Crunchyroll doesn't care about foreigners" posts too when I've already addressed these notions which you seem to ignore.

It is worth it if you want to support the anime industry so they can make the animes that you love, and to enable CR to be able to improve what it has been doing, I would have a membership right now but since im in college i dont have the money right now :[

Then you can have all my 48-hour all-access guest passes if you want them. None of my friends want them and I'm about sick to freakin' death of seeing that stupid smiley face every time I visit the web site. No matter how many times I let those passes expire I keep getting a "Gift your friends an All-Access 48-Hour Crunchyroll guest pass!" message and get more passes.
