Recently someone i know got a query to do Jury Duty and he's not sure if he wants to, so what about you. I want to know whether or not Jury Duty is liked.

Not trying to be rude, but what was your train of thought when you decided to make a poll in the help/support/feedback section of the forum?

Besides, all polls (except those posted by Shinji & co) go in the poll section.

I thought jury duty was mandatory? Where I live if a person doesn't attend, they'll be put in jail.

Something tells me that teens and young people on CR aren't the demographics you want to dig for legal information. I'm sure wikipedia - or even urban dictionary - are just as credible in comparison. Also, if your friend is in the US like you, jury duty is mandatory.

In a hypothetical situation - which I'm assuming you are actually just wanting to discuss out of boredom (or God know what) - almost no one wants to be on jury duty. Jury duty doesn't even pay enough money to pay for the gas money you have to spend, you end up missing work/school (which makes you lose money), and it can actually last a really long time.

I would if it meant supporting my friend or family member who it was directly affecting

If you know what to write for reasons you can't appear likely you will never get the demand note to appear after the first time. I did make one appearance a few years ago but didn't get chosen. Here in flyover state Missouri the county can only ask once every 2 years. In the event you do appear before either the defense or the prosecuting attorney for preliminary questioning before the final jury selection cut suggest to either that you were harassed by law enforcement once upon a time and that you would always lean toward wherever the defense attorney's logic led. That statement should spring you from such a duty in the event you see jury duty as a hindrance rather than a citizen's right.

Also be aware the presiding judge may overrule a jury decision determining the accused's fate if he/she doesn't agree with the merits of the decision.

I really don't think you can volunteer for it.

When you get an order to appear, it is mandatory - unless you have a good excuse.

I can't afford to . . they only pay $15 a day.

As far as civic duty goes, when they pay me what a lawyer gets to do their civic duty, I might be inclined not to think of it in bad terms.

If I was retired . . . that would be different.

No, I'm not of age, so that hasn't even occurred to me.
I'm guessing when I do become of age, I wouldn't voluntarily do it anyway.
