Absolutely it has happened. That is why they are called "crushes" and it has happened on both sides in my case. Though I'm usually the one without luck to be honest.

This used to bother me but I've learned to let it go. I've experienced what I call the domino effect. A girl liked me but I rejected her. I really liked this other girl but she rejected me. In my case I get double the sorrow because I feel bad about rejecting someone and then I get rejected by someone else. It sucks but that's life... As long as you follow your heart, you'll have no regrets about your choices in life.

I'm in love w/ my best friend.
But he has a girlfriend, & me & her don't get along, obviously.
I even flirt w/ him & joke around about us being in a relationship & he laughs it off or plays along.
One day, I got fed up w/ it & confessed to him, he took it really well! Lol, we were laughing together because he was so clueless.
Everybody saw it but him.
Plus, his girlfriend cheated on him 5 times, ughhh, another reason why I don't like her.
Needless to say, I've tried to get over him & even had boyfriends, but I still can't get over him.
Of course, I told him I'm over him so he wouldn't have to worry anymore, but I lied. );
Sorry to post like my life story here, but yeah, just wanted to share! xP
