I was in AFROTC for 2 years in college on a scholarship. If you are going military it's the way to go, Air Power all the way. The reason I left after two years was because I spent a summer at Travis Air Force base shadowing officers and enlisted, and let me tell you if you are not a pilot or navigator you are a paper pusher (logistics). On account of my poor vision desk work would have been my job for four years. I would rather teach abroad then push paper so I left but its safe and pays well. O and they also pay for your education. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I broke it on a 20 mi hike... in the last three miles of it...
My buddy sprained her ankle and i just thought my foot hurt from hiking so much, but we hobbled the last three miles of the hike, then i sat down and took off my boot and my foot swole up three times the size it is normally in like ten seconds.. i had to go to the hosp with my buddy anyway, so i was just going to get some ice on it.. and move along, you know, but when i got there they took my buddy back and asked me to sit and wait for her, and that first step after talking to the nurse, is when my leg slid up through my ankle.. I collapsed on the ground and said "ouch" (it went numb almost immeadiatly) and the nurse helped me back up and i looked down at my foot and it was bleeding like mad.
The nurse pulled me into the er and basically threw me on the bed and soaked up the blood and gave me pain killers.. (lol at that time i didn't need them!)
It was bad.. you could see my ankle bones sticking out at really funky angles, and my heel didn't look like a heel it looked like an eggplant.
but yeah after rehabilitation they couldn't get more cartiledge to grow back around the joint.. so i have to be careful with jolting my foot.

To you high schoolers considering joining the ARMY do yourself a favor and Join the Army National Guard @ 17 YEARS OLD AND AT LEAST A JUNIOR in high school.

Get paid and earn rank while you're still in High School.

Go to basic between your Jr. and Sr. year.

When you graduate High School you go to A.I.T. (Advanced Individual Training).

Up until now you have been non-deployable.

This is where you need to decide either go active duty as an E-3 or E-4 or stay in the Guard and go to college.

If college is in your future make sure you get the Guard's College First Program as part of your contract. You don't sign sh!t you don't want to!!! It makes you non-deployable for the first 2 years of college.

The Guard is throwing money at soldiers who are going to school. If you play your cards right and find a school that has a R.O.T.C. (Reserve Officer Training Corps), and go that route, you will be non-deployable the entire time, won't pay sh!t for tuition, and get paid back.

When you graduate college you accept your commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, then go active duty.

Oh and by the way YOU pick the MOS you want in the GUARD.

As a good kid/student you can get all the .gov has to offer.

I'm not a recruiter but I play one on the internet.

Look for yourself: www.1800GOGUARD.com

Oh yeah, the FAT A$$ signing bonus ain't bad either.

When you talk to a recruiter make him work for his enlistment. Demand everything that is coming to you and get it in ink!!!

P.S I could not join , as I have had asthma all my life. Really wanted Air Force lol , love those jets.

One of the few joys I get out of school is talking to recruiters, the others being hanging around my ROTC unit, training my Riflemen (rifle team commander), and teaching my platoon members (platoon sergeant also) in hand to hand

^^Personally I can't wait to complete Basic combat training and get that Eagle, Globe and anchor, and become the exclusive property of the United States Goverment, the US Marine Corps and the US Navy

and the correct term is, Devil Dogs, ooh rah
