Mac App Store Reaches 100 Million Downloads

With Apple steadily increasing their street cred.

They debuted a fast and intuitive software store called Mac App Store,

Just like the iOS App Store before it, the Mac App Store is THE biggest PC Software store, and it's only available on Mac computers, anyone with the latest Snow Leopard of any version of Lion OS can get it on the fun store.

Through the Mac App Store, thousands of free and paid apps, including games, educational and productivity apps, and plenty more can be picked up using your iTunes account, creating an easy alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar or delivery-based shopping.

Thanks, IGN.

With the Mac App Store also being directly connected to iTunes,

It expanded it and made the biggest, most popular online store more popular and successful, Apple has proved once again that streamlined-stability pays off in a well maintained environment, erasing the need to surf the virus-ridden internet.

In other Apple related news.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/12/20/apple-wins-patent-ruling-over-android-manufacturer

Apple continued to defend itself against it's Android competitors, the basic features of the iPhone and it's innovative concepts have been leaked to Google and it seems they're not letting Android use another one of their patents.

You heard it from me first(Unless you got to IGN),

Do you use the Apple Mac Store?

Did you know all along that the iTunes store is the first and most successful software store?

Is Apple "patent" ridiculous?

Sound off below.

Closed drm vs Open drm.. well in all honesty I don't really care however android os is tad better over the ios from my developers point of view, still I would never get rid of my vizio table or ipod touch for anything.

Mac App Store sucked. There's too little apps for it and nearly all the apps are paid ones. The iOS app store is way better. BTW, Linux have their own app store way before Apple does.

I'll bite. Apple are introducing a lock in/walled garden approach to software which is bad for competition, their party, their rules, don't like it you're not getting in. Some of the best software out there will not appear on the "App Store" for the Mac, and it never will but people won't go around looking for the best software they will just fire up the store and search for what they desire and pay for it, even though the better software is FOSS and comes free as in beer.

It's also bad news for resellers, the latest version of OSX is only available through the Mac store, so it's Apple screwing over everyone.

Statistically, Steam (which is a software store, games are actually software) has had more downloads than the Mac store, there are 35 million active accounts on steam, personally I have 57 games, the average is 54, so 54*35m = 1.8 billion downloads.

iTunes is not the oldest software store either, it didn't become a software store until around 2007, before that it was a music store (hence the Tunes in the name), it's also not the oldest music distribution network.

Carrying on. The basic concepts of any mobile phone are... that they make a phone call which requires actually a lot of patents, to prevent companies holding a monopoly on phone tech, standards are introduced (for instance the GSM standard) but it only becomes a standard if the people who hold the patents licence it under FRAND (fair and non discriminatory), without these patents a phone wouldn't work at all.

The majority of tech in the iPhone doesn't actually belong to Apple, the CPU is by Arm (a British company), the GPU is also from a British company the screen is made by Samsung (who Apple are suing) so all the companies are suing each other and try and get sales banned, Apple did manage to get Samsung banned in Australia and Germany but those bans were over-turned, it's become so terrible with Apple suing everyone that the EU (google it) is probing the entire thing, the US patent system is however a joke, Apple constantly apply for patents where there is previous form and the patents are unenforceable - so basically ignore the whole patent thing, it's stupid and counter-productive.

And finally, no, I don't use the Apple store, nor will I use iTunes even though I own an iPhone (really must remember where I left it).

Before I forget, the reason Apple are aiming for bans is because of iTunes, if a person buys an Android phone then Apple hasn't just lost that sale but future sales too, that person will use the Android store to make purchases which can't be transferred to the iPhone and if you spend a fortune on software for your Android you're not going to lose it all and switch to Apple, the same is true in reverse, once you're in the Apple eco-system they lock you in, you can't transfer the stuff you buy through iTunes to any phone other than an iPhone. So the question is, choice, do you stick with the iPhone even though Samsung and HTC are making far superior phones and will continue to make better phones, or do you buy a Samsung knowing that in 12 months you can upgrade to a HTC and all your apps will still work?

Don't care. Don't use Apple products, other than the ipod. I don't get anything for my ipod through itunes or any other Apple-related product.

He's already started like 50 threads about pointless electronic crap only to argue with any poster who goes against his rigidly preset opinions. I only check in his topics for the flame wars. His arguments are always so cute x)

And so does every app store is based from, repositories. you pick what applications you want and install it in a single click. Except Apple and some other companies don't allow you to modify the software softwares unlike Ubuntu (Synaptic before USC came along) or similar Linux distribution. Recent app stores like Ubuntu Software Center has paid apps. You don't know that Mac App Store has paid apps? Wow, you must be a blinded Apple fanboy which speakd crap all day long.
