Oh, I thought there would be three The Hobbit movies. Anyway, I am really looking forward to this!!! I haven't read any of the books because I always get sleepy just in the first chapter, but I know that LOTR series a great and epic story, just judging from the LOTR movies. And I really feel bad that I have only seen the entirety of the trilogy early this year, when I saw my brother re-watching the movies for the nth time and he gave me copies. Though I did a movie review on Fellowship of the Ring for an English class when I was a freshman. |

There really are gonna be three movies to be released. One movie every year. Until 2014. |

I'm confused about some things.
The movies make it clear that they are going to cover the scenario in Dol Guldur; mentioned in the appendices BUT Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide The necromancer at Dol Guldur was Sauron, and Sauron fled Dol Guldur. If Sauron, in the films, is literally a burning eyeball, and they say he can't take physical form, how is he supposed to be hanging out at the Bald Hill? I assume the necromancer will be merely an agent of the Dark Lord, and his presence will confirm that Sauron is 'back', despite the fact he never died in the first place, being a Maiar (Or however you spell it). |

It was pretty good. There are a lot of things they expanded on and while I don't agree with some of the changes I do realize that things which work really well in books don't work as well for a movie so I can accept most of them.
I'm finding the expanded elements pretty interesting though. For the most part these are things that were footnotes and stuff that got an off hand mention as things that were happening in the world but had nothing to do with the Dwarves and their quest. So I rather like seeing them get fleshed out a little |

My one gripe with the movie is that in the book The Necromancer was a side villain, his true identity not mentioned until the Appendices in the LOTR books.
Now while I can appreciate going more indepth in that scenario, I felt they should've maybe held off on revealing who it is, make a bigger impact later, rather than metaphorically plastering it on a neon billboard off the bat. |

Although at the ending I was like "where's the rest of the movie?!" Only to find out they're making sequels. Sigh. |

I saw it a couple days ago and I'm very conflicted about what to think overall. Some parts were absolutely excellent while I loathed others.
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide The scenes with Azog bothered me the most and given the account in the movie I'm now wondering how they plan to introduce King Dain. This isn't a complaint in any way but did anyone else "hear" Stoick from How to Train Your Dragon in Thorin's voice? (they're played by different actors) |
