The Black Lagoon dub is spot on for its setting and characters. There's nothing else to say, really. It's that good.
I also enjoyed the dubs of Soul Eater, Samurai Champloo, Gunslinger Girl, and pretty much all of the well-known Studio Ghibli films. Overall, I'm pretty 50/50 when it comes to my taste in subs vs. dubs. It really depends on who's doing the voice work and which version I see first. |

Death Note
Code Geass Full Metal Panic off the top my head these are better dubbed than subbed imo |

Cowboy Bebop
It's one of the rare occasions where the dub is better made than the original, to which even Shinichirō Watanabe himself agrees. Staying faithful to source material and more. Dragon Ball Z Kai What can I say? FUNimation have come a long way since the first time they were dubbing DBZ. To think they used to be this small, inexperienced, and not-so-great dubbing company but now they're among the best dubbing companies there is and it really shows with Kai. Most of the time, I find myself choosing to watch it dubbed over subbed. Grave of the Fireflies Despite as old as it is, it was a great dub. It had good voice-acting, and follows the narrative to the letter. Highschool of the Dead Not much I can say about this one but it has solid voice-acting except for a few and it's mostly faithful to source material (with some dialogue-based jokes thrown in for the dub). |

This!!! Only place I like dubs are when it makes more sense that they are speaking English like Code Geass where the Holy Brttanian Empire would not speak Japanese. Other futuristic shows work well like Cowboy Bebop. |

Death Note, I only didn't like Light's voice, it was a good voice but to me it seriously didn't fit..... same with Mello, but it turned out alright.
Also, Angel Beats. One of the best dubbing jobs I've seen. |

shadorai wrote: the worst iv'e seen though is gintama. i saw 5 minutes of the gintama benaizakura arc made into a movie dubbed, and it was thw worst dubbing iv'e ever experienced. i literally cried. it was that bad. if you're a gintama fan, watch it too. it's horrible. especially kagura. YES! I couldn't agree more. I like both subs and dubs but my god man ..... what they did to Gintama was freaking criminal! Watched 10 minutes of it before the cringe factor overwhelmed me. Well back on topic ... lets see a good dub I haven't posted here ... Well the Rebuild Of Evangelion was surprisingly a pretty solid dub. Didn't think they could pull that off. I think I still prefer it subbed though since it's about even but if you prefer dubbed it's not that much worse. Speed Grapher is WAY BETTER dubbed than subbed. Makes it more nitty gritty like the anime itself is. Obligatory Cowboy Bebop mention |

I actually just stumbled upon what I think might actually be the best dub I've ever seen: it's for a recent anime called Okami-San and her Seven Companions on Funimation's website. It's completely seamless, and also quite necessary, since it has a very funny narrator often talking over the main characters at certain times to take very clever jabs at them. It would be pretty difficult to take in in sub form, so it seems almost ideal. My girlfriend sat down with me and watched a few episodes and loved it, and she's not very into anime very much at all. If the show appeals to you, I recommend it a hundred times over.
More generall, I really enjoy dubbed anime, and agree with most of the suggestions in the thread thus far. Death Note and Angelbeats! stand out particularly for me, but for some reason I preferred Baccano and Spice and Wolf in the Japanese. |
