Hand-drawn or computer-animated (NOT 3D animation)?
I, for one, like hand-drawn but nowadays they are rarely used. I always had a feeling that all computer-made art all looks the same for some reason when I watched the most recent animes released. Hand-drawn does takes up more time and effort than computer (obviously) however, hand-drawn has its own uniqueness in my opinion.

So, what do you think?

And no foul language in this thread or keep it minimum.

Old school animation will always have a place in my heart, but computer animation probably give images a more natural flow. That is when applied properly of course. And most of the anime I like are probably computer animated.

3-D animation also has it's own place. Productions such as Shrek, Toy Story and WALL-E have their own charm. But I do think that 3-D animation is used a bit to eagerly nowadays where 2-D could have been used with more success.

Not speaking in terms of the process of animation but rather what style of art I like. Hayao Miyazaki's stuff is way up there. And CLAMP as well as the art in Mushishi, D.Gray-Man, Ao no Exorcist etc.

I like them both, however if I had to choose it would be the computer animated type because it has more colors.

There's only a few techniques available to animate something, yes. You can either draw every single cell by hand (hand-drawn) or you can do it with a computer program (computer animation) which is faster and eliminates a great deal of menial work. There are both advantages and disadvantages to both.

I suppose there's also rotoscoping if you want a 3rd option, where you animate over live action film, EX: A Scanner Darkly.

What it is meant was that the animation development such as background/character/etc is either hand-drawn or the use of computer entirely or somewhere along that if that is what you are looking for.

The artists involved are more important than the method anyways, they just have to know how to use it.

**That said, the tendency to use weird 3d for mechanical stuff (all the way from cars to giant robots) is always a bit jarring, it doesn't match the characters.

I like both animation works of SHAFT and KEY (angel beats, Clannad etc...) above most others.

I think I like animation that includes the best of both worlds. I like when the computer animated anime gives the appearance of it being hand drawn. Of course with a little bit better graphics mixed in too.

Anything from Production I.G.
(Eden of the East, Guilty Crown, Tales of the Abyss OVAs, etc.)
Seriously, anything from them is anime movie quality.
