Firstly, I'm going to get a lot of flames around where, so beware.
I'm a fan of Amano Yoshitaka's works because of his way of drawing and making art. He also creates every main Final Fantasy logo, except for IX. Here's an example of his art and one of my favourites: What do I think of Tetsuya Nomura's style? Well, in my opinion, I don't really like it. With his overuse of belts, zips, boots, buckles, leather, etc. in his characters( Even in his Kingdom Hearts ). As well as his female characters wearing revealing outfits (Esp. Final Fantasy X-2) and bizarre hairstyles.Such as this: It's too "anime" for my liking meaning it's too typical. Amano's style is atypical.*Gets a flame shield.* Please feel free to express your opinion but don't push your luck. You can post images if you like if no one is familiar of what their art style is like, since what I posted is not really good examples myself. And keep foul words away from this thread. |

I am a HUGE fan of all of Amano's work. I list him as one of the inspirations behind me becoming a professional artist myself. That being said, Nomura's style is far more illustrator friendly and actually right up alley as far as being tailored to my personal tastes.... I love the little steam-punkerly flair to his characters actually and don't find it over the top in the least.....
So whats it come down to for me? I suppose its conceptualization and originality... in those regards Amano wins hands down... his block-print work is practically like a signature.... in other words to look at his work is to see "Amano" written all over it, without even having to check the sig..... he is a league all of his own and for that I must pay him homage.... My vote too, is for Amano. |

Nomura style. I just think he's so great. His arts also well-detailed too I think. But I'm not saying Amano's work is bad. Both are amazing. But I personally prefer Nomura instead. Since he always put up best designs and unique looking characters.

Hello world!

I actually like a lot from both styles the characters weapons and very low detail high impact backgrounds from Amano are amazing.
And i like the clothing and weapons from Nomura though i haven't seen any full concept art scenes from him. And before anyone can start the thread no the Final Fantasy XIII music guy can't hold a candle to Nobuo Uematus PERIOD |

Is the FF12 character designer Akihiko Yoshida (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akihiko_Yoshida) an option?
Yoshitaka Amano has a unique art style which is well suited for still images. My only quibble is that it doesn't resemble the sprite art in FF1-6 in any way. If you look at Wikipedia's article for Tetsuya Nomura at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuya_Nomura, then you'll see that this person has done work on quite a few games. The assumption that his art is just "too many belts" is an oversimplification. |

Nomura style.

Amano. He can do pretty much anything and it's always distinctive and surreal.
Nomura has a really nice style that transfers well to updated systems, whereas Amano's is good for sprites, but Nomura doesn't put enough variety in his work, which is sad, because he has some serious talent. All of the cute characters look the same. FFXIII had beautiful character designs for most of the characters, particularly Oerba Yun Fang, Lightning and Sazh. Aya Brea is another brilliant design of his. And, OP, you're very right. One person a lot of people forgot about is Akihiko Yoshida (except someone upthread, thank you). He tends to simply and scale down his art, but when he doesn't bother doing so, it's breathtaking. |

Nomura style.. would be the more popular one I suppose.
My personal favorite is however the work of FF IX |

If "Nobody" is indestructible...Then I'm "Nobody"....!!!

I've always wanted a Final Fantasy game that uses Amano's painting style as its main graphics (like Okami, perhaps). Second to Amano would be Yoshida. His art for FFXII, FFT, Bravely Default, and Tactics Ogre are stunning. And in third is Nomura. The designs for TWEWY were rad.

I have this Azusa addiction... Not the first time though.

Whoever did the art for FFXIV has my vote.
Oh look, Akihiko Yoshida! |

Shigenori Soejima makes Nomura and Amano look like children trying to color a coloring book compared to him . This man literally makes Persona better then any Final Fantasy by just his artwork alone, and I'm not even touching the music producer. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Like you stated OP, Nomura overuses way to many of the same accessories for his characters and sometimes he doesn't know how to design hot women (Tifa the only girl I actually consider descent from him) I don't know, I prefer this guy's artwork over anything. |

Both of them are really good, but Amano's art is just so beautiful.
Have to go with him. ^^ |
