I just signed up for my 2 week trial. Steins Gate was just getting good when I could no longer access the videos I had just been watching. Then I noticed the message saying that it had been removed due to licensing restrictions. Does this happen a lot? Is Steins Gate coming back? I don't know if I want to subscribe if series are just going to disappear.

This was already announced a while back. It doesnt happen TOO often because the last one I believe was Deadman Wonderland. So as far as I know, that's two in the past 7 months.

You've might have been late about Stiens Gate it was schedule to be remove a long time ago. The main reason why these happens sometimes is that animators do have the right to remove there work if they plz, so we can't do a thing about it :/

If there is only a way CR can be more popular and more people subscribed then more anime creator will want their work on the website.

this does happen a fair amount. Nogizaka haruka license ending was recently announced and about a month ago 3 other series license ended. I haven't ever seen a license end during the season that the show is airing so it generally isn't a big deal if you watch current series.
lots of older series are still on the site but now that some companies are getting better about releasing dvd sets while a series is still recent, you will probably see this happen more.

Steins;Gate didn't go away without notice, and won't be coming back. There should have been a notice of the impending removal near the top of the main page for the series (although if you were going in via the queue or other means, you would have missed it). A notice was posted in the Site News section of the forum on November 18, 2011, slightly more than a month before it was scheduled to be removed.

If you were up on the news of the anime world, this one (and most of the other removals this year) could have been seen from much further out. When Funimation announces the licensing of a series, and it is one on Crunchyroll, and it is from Kadokawa (publisher info can be found near the bottom of the main page of a series), you can count on it eventually going away.

Sometimes it is relatively soon after the announcement (i.e, Funimation announced the acquisition back at the beginning of July that included 3 series that were on Crunchyroll, but Deadman Wonderland went first, back on October 9). Some take even longer. For example, Funimation announced their licensing of Strike Witches 2 soon after CR did, but it wasn't removed until earlier this year, almost a year after it finished airing. I am not certain what determines the timing of this, whether it is when certain contract terms are met (i.e, a payment, delivery of materials, etc.), but if it is a Kadokawa series, you can count on it, and should at least anticipate it if it is from another publisher.

The good news (in a way) is that going forward, you are going to see next to no Kadokawa series on Crunchyroll, as with the probable exception of sequels to series CR licensed from them in the past, those will be going to the Funico joint venture (Funimation + Nico Nico), due to Kadokawa's relationship with Nico Nico.

Funimation often has events where the entire series is available for a limited time on streaming. Stay up to date with new shows and industry news and events so you can watch them as they air.

Word of mouth really is the best way to spread the word about anime to help a broader range of people appreciate and support the anime industry. A good idea would be to see if they like animated films and if so, it would be easy to show them Spirited Away and other good anime movies (if they like foreign films they may be ok with subs, but usually you have to show it in English). Also suggest shows in the genres that they like.

on the up side, Seeing it get pulled from here due to licensing means that it's going to hit DVD soon and I can Own it.

More than a few series have had that happen and I am eagerly awaiting the DVD releases. Just got word that Heaven's Lost Property is already on it's way to me and just waiting for P&S to come out.

Ah ok thanks. I watched the entire series in subbed as with most of my anime. I didnt take this anime that serious thou cause of the overexaggered fanservice/comedy. It definitely has its potential if they take out most of it.

It's a fun show, about 90% ecchi silly but that last 10% can get pretty epic. There is a lot of dark side to it that spends most of the show lurking beneath the surface particularly around Nymphs backstory

Heaven's Lost Property is already out. As I recall, it was released on December 20.

As with all Funimation releases, this is a dub, although of course the original Japanese audio and English subtitles are also available on the disc (BD+DVD combo pack).

At their website, viewers can see the first two dubbed episodes of the first series for free, or all of the episodes of both series (original and Forte in subtitled format with one exception: Episode 14 "Project Pink" from the first series, which is only available to Elite Membership subscribers, and of course those that buy the box set. That episode was not aired, and thus was the only one not simulcast by Crunchyroll. Elite subscribers can also all of the episodes of the first series in dub format, and are not limited to the first two offered to free viewers.

Back on topic, they have yet to add Steins;Gate to their website, although I do see episodes for Deadman Wonderland and Is this a Zombie? coming up next month.

It should be noted they already have 6 subtitled episodes of DW up, but for Elite subscribers only currently. Keep in mind one difference between these and what CR showed is these will not have the broadcast censoring.
