Kim Nam-joo to headline new weekend drama
Queen of the small screen Kim Nam-joo (Queen of Reversals) will be returning to television with a new weekend drama for KBS, called You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly (as in a stroke of luck). It’s an awkward title to translate, but it’s basically like saying you came into my life out of nowhere like a piece of good fortune. She’ll be playing opposite Yoo Joon-sang, who’s mostly a film actor, from movies like Moss, The Most Beautiful Goodbye in the World, and his latest, Hong Sang-soo’s The Day He Arrives.
She’ll be playing a successful careerwoman who never once considered that marriage would benefit her in any way, but then she meets Yoo Joon-sang’s perfect-on-paper surgeon and the two marry. The real drama begins when she finds out that married life isn’t all roses, and comes with a whole lot of baggage. I guess she thought she could buy the horse and leave the cart behind?
The tone is described as light and funny, and comes from writer Park Ji-eun who penned Kim Nam-joo’s past two drama hits, Queen of Housewives and Queen of Reversals. I’m a fan of the pairing (writer and star), so I’ll happily watch the third installment in their unofficial series. Directing is PD Kim Hyung-seok of Love and Marriage and lots of Drama Specials, including one of my faves, Our Slightly Risqué Relationship.
You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly plans to premiere in February, and will air Saturdays and Sundays on KBS.

“My Husband” shatters own record, proves its unbeatable status on weekly TV ratings
KBS’ weekend TV series “My Husband Got a Family” has kept its dominant position, shattering its own record by breaching the 40 percent mark once again. The Yoo Jun-sang and Kim Nam-joo starrer solidified its No. 1 status after attracting an average ratings of 42.6 percent during the third week of August, according to data polled by TNmS (Total National Multimedia Statistics) on Monday. As the chart-topping drama is supposed to wrap up its six month run in three weeks, more and more viewers are keeping their eyes on the series to find out its grand finale of the 58 episode drama.
This week's episode focused on how the secret regarding Gui-nam's identity is revealed and his mother Cheong-ae [played by Yoon Yeo-jeong] ran away from home due to the intensity of the matter. With a noticeable gap behind the top seed, KBS' weekly series, "Reaching for the Stars" held onto its No. 2 title with an average rating of 26.7 percent in the same time frame.
Going neck-on-neck with "Reaching for the Stars" was the same broadcaster's comedy program “Gag Concert,” which sat in third place, after drawing in 26.1 percent of total viewers. Next on the chart, KBS’ Wednesday and Thursday series “Gaksital” and KBS 9 o’clock News each ranked at No. 4 and No. 5, after each attracting 22.3 and 21.1 percent of the viewers during the same time period.
Other TV shows in the top ten include SBS' variety show "I Like Sundays," MBC’s “Infinite Challenge, KBS' "Love in Asia," SBS' “Wow How” and KBS' "VJs on the Scene." Meanwhile, AGB Nielson's data compiled between August 13 and 19 showed the programs in the same order but with slightly different numbers.
The data showed "My Husband" enjoyed its spot on the top of the chart with ratings of 38.7 percent, followed by KBS’ “Reaching for the Stars” and KBS’ “Gag Concert” sitting at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, after posting 24.5 and 22.5 percent last week.
