Yes... reading them online is far too convenient and I really like how fansubs add in a bunch of extra lore/translation content much of the time.

That being said! I try my best to purchase what I can to support the mangakas!

I do, though lately I've been buying volumes of manga series I know are good so I can have the hard copy on my shelve.

I usua;;y buy the first one or two volumes, then read the rest online (If I like it). I read one book in like, an hour, so it gets a little expensive.

Back when I was in high school, we borrowed manga from friends a like. After graduating, I ended up inheriting a few books from those who grew out of it.

I would beg my mom to go to the local bookstore so I could buy a few manga volumes from the series I was currently reading and found a lot of good series by browsing the manga section (back when they had an abundance of anime/manga merchandise in stores). After they went out of business, the closest bookstore was Borders which was about an hour drive, which I could only convince my mom to go there on special occasions.

After that, I was pretty much forced to go online for my manga fix. I've bought volumes from online stores even then, and there are still plenty of series I currently support/plan to support. Other than that, reading manga online has helped me find good oneshots as well as extremely convenient for out of print series.

Well, I used to all the time. Then I realized the whole legal issues, mainly it being against the law and what not. Then some good part of me has been nagging at me since. So I tried to crush it. With steel tipped boots.

Moral of the story? Use cleats. Oh. And...er....buy manga. Support authors...and what not. Yeah. Right.

Considering how far tankobons usually are behind their magazine or online releases, I generally read online over books. I like reading the next Naruto when it comes out, and not having to read the somewhat censored Viz version that will come out like a year later.

Haven't bought tankobons in forever, but I don't download manga either, so does that really make me a pirate? That's like saying watching a video on Youtube is pirating because I didn't buy the movie I was watching, is it not? I don't plan on majoring in law, but someone do feel free to tell me if my thought process is wrong here.

I read scans on my phone through an app to keep up to date with ongoing series but whenever I can I cop a volume from my local bookstore or online . When I have more spare cash I'll really start buying more volumes and such

I only buy manga from the bookstore, I much prefer reading from a book, rather than from my phone or computer.

Check out your local library! Most of them have manga, obviously not ALL of it but a lot of the popular ones. I work for a library so I feel I must promote it. haha
