I never read it for free. I completely support the authors, buying all my books for the last six years in Japanese from amazon.co.jp but I bought them from stores before I switched to all Japanese.

When I am really impatient I won't wait for the tankobons, I will buy Ultrajump, Evening, Afternoon, Gangan Joker or other monthly magazines. DHL ships very quickly so I get them very fast, before the translators are done. Years before in some cases.

I'd prefer looking at a book than a screen any day... I buy all of my manga, mainly because I will probably read them more than once and I just like the idea of actually having an object rather than everything on a screen. They are also fun to collect and as they are just books its easier to grab them any time I want rather than trying to find a website. I really like the art in them which is another reason why I buy them and I like that I can contribute to the author...

If something isn't licensed in the UK though or is only in Japanese I'd read it online (but I usually use a free app to read it) or I might read the first few pages of a book I plan on buying to see if its any good or not.

Although only buying manga means I don't read as much as I could be reading if I was getting it for free, it just makes it more fun when I finally get a book i'm looking forward to (:

I would've bought more manga IF there was a nearby store who sold it, and if they were cheaper. Its not like I'm greedy or something, but if you end up buying 10 volumes, it gets expensive after a while. So I'm just downloading manga, and watch it on my eeepad ~

The majority of the time, yes, I read my manga free. I do most of it online. However, there are some that I read that I enjoy so much that I want to go out and see if they're available yet or not.

Not usually. When a story has any significant length to it I like flipping through a paper book more than reading on the computer, especially when pictures are involved. I like supporting the author when I buy new and recycling when I buy used, but those motivations are secondary to my book obsession. I do read some webcomics for free that specifically come out like that, but the ones that sustain my interest I support by buying the paper volumes if they release them because I do like re-reading some stuff. I've checked out scanlation sites and am amazed by the selection. Then I develop grand ideas that I'll read all these things but I never get around to it because I have too much stuff in paper format to keep me occupied.

Now, I have been guilty of reading an entire volume of something at the Borders coffee shop when Borders still existed *sob*, but that would be because I found something really good and would always buy it when I leave!

Doesn't matter whether I'm getting paid or not. Well...may be.

The point being, manga is manga. It gives joy to many while also taking away some benefits such as money and time. But, I read it for free like any other addict.

Isn't it everyone's guilty pleasure...?

I read them on internet. Just choose the better scanlation group is Ok. Hmm, MS translation are good, but they do not keep older manga on the internet, so I always go to the ******** to read the manga which mostly manga are scanlated by them.

I really don't like reading manga online... Just doesn't feel the same as owning and reading an actual book. I have made a few exceptions for obscure one-shots and a few series that will most likely never be released in English though.
