Imma just break with the general opinion here and say major is better.

At least i like it more, no arguments to back it up, i just do :P

But ofc ookiku is nice too

for some reason, i really can't get into the storyline of major. people keep raving about how good it is, but i've tried to watch it a couple of times and just couldn't get past the first couple of episodes. maybe it's cuz i saw ookiku furikabutte first....

so yeah, i would say ookiku fuributte is way better. i find myself loving everyone on the team and even caring for their opponents. i love abe and mihashi the best, of course! <3

When it comes to sports genre I am pretty picky because I prefer my sports anime to be about heart and emotion with sports as a backdrop and ookiku Furikabutte doesn't stray from this back drop it follows the formula of impossible odds and climb to the top quite well. What's interesting about this when I compare to Major is that the baseball team has flawed individuals but taken as a whole it's near perfect because everyone balances everyone out. .. for example, the personalities of mihashi and abe cancel each other out.

Even if you don't know baseball or know baseball. . .this series has it. . .lots of baseball strategies. It's a bit deeper than both Major and H2, and there is enough Initial D type twists to keep the baseball scenes engrossing. There is comedy. Just having Mihashi as the pitcher is comedy because he is pathetic and whiny but that's what's interesting, you end up rooting for him because as the drama unfolds you notice him getting a little confident and one can relate to a person like that because human's evolve to what they are slowly.

When I compare it to it to major. .. Goro-kun is the typical shonen hero who is born talented even though he works hard but turn into a powerhouse monster. His formula that became a bit repetitve is: go to weak school/take on underdog, inspire everyone to reach his goals, gets hurt, but continues to play, everything is the fastball even though he challenge other pitchers and batters he only improve his speed because is character personality is already set. His time in the limelight is 90 percent of the time while Ookiku Furikabutte has everyone (including their rivals) equal time to shine so one gets the perspectives of everyone because, BASEBALL is a team sport. . .and individual growth relies on the whole of the team. . .Not that Major doesn't have it too. . .it's just that Major doesn't focus on it much because everything revolves around Goro while in Ookiku the attention is on Mihashi's growth with his team members and their determination to make a name for the team. So, basically more realistic when compare to Major. Slice of life with a dash of steel detemination really is more heart warming. That's why it made it to the top 50 animes of 2007 in Japan, even surpassing naruto, bleach, and major placing 24th while those that I mentioned did not end up on the list. . .I got the info at ANN. . . .

Yeah I agree. I prefer more realistic sports anime (although I watch many that are not) like Ookiku Furikabutte. I like sports anime where the actual sport shines.

I'm with Ookiku Furikabutte in this one.
Major looked to much anime-ish, but I'm not one to judge since I only saw the first episode.

Both looks good but I'm still with Ookiku.

I have a hard time comparing the two animes, basically because they are in two different categories. As pointed out, Major is the shounen by all standards, just with the topic of baseball being the twist. Oofuri is an everyday slice of life story about an entire baseball team. As far as the anime is concerned, they have more than one character who's past is shown (I cant find a place that has the manga translated past where the anime is, so the anime is as far into the story as I know.).

Major centers on one character, and always will, because it's a shounen. And for the category of shounen, it's a fantastic series, and I more than love it. It doesnt try to be anything it isnt. The same goes for Oofuri. It's about baseball strategy and the team, and of course it's also about Mihashi overcoming that detrimental road block that has been in his way since his days at Mihoshi. There's nothing out of the ordinary in the series (Except for coach Momoe and here fist juicing ways.).

Although the overwhelming similarity between the two series is the gyroball. They flat out call it that in Major, and they give you all the information in Oofuri to let you know that Mihashi throws it, albeit in the more realistic way. Since the gyroball motion looks a lot like a slider, it's main effectiveness is with a pitcher with a wide variety of breaking balls. the pitching motion looks a lot like that of a slider, so a pitcher who can throw a variety of pitches, along with a solid slider, can really mess up a lot of batters. And that's Mihashi to a tee. Curve, Shoot, Slider, etc, he's a variety pitcher who never realized he had a stronger weapon to go along with those.

Ive been a fan of Major for a long time, and I cant see myself straying away unless they absolutely try to ruin the series. Oofuri should always be fantastic. It feels like they series was made out of love for baseball, and with that drive it should never stray from it's detailed ways.

As far as which I like better, Ill choose Oofuri. I get more excited than I should when an episode of either comes out, but intricate detail in Oofuri has me checking on it before Major every day.
