Although the overwhelming similarity between the two series is the gyroball. They flat out call it that in Major, and they give you all the information in Oofuri to let you know that Mihashi throws it, albeit in the more realistic way. Since the gyroball motion looks a lot like a slider, it's main effectiveness is with a pitcher with a wide variety of breaking balls. the pitching motion looks a lot like that of a slider, so a pitcher who can throw a variety of pitches, along with a solid slider, can really mess up a lot of batters. And that's Mihashi to a tee. Curve, Shoot, Slider, etc, he's a variety pitcher who never realized he had a stronger weapon to go along with those.

Ive been a fan of Major for a long time, and I cant see myself straying away unless they absolutely try to ruin the series. Oofuri should always be fantastic. It feels like they series was made out of love for baseball, and with that drive it should never stray from it's detailed ways.

Wow, I wasn't sure if Mihashi's throw is the Gyroball because they didn't come right out and say it. I kinda thought it was when in the opening he stomps on the ground and the gyro wind appear on the ground where his left foot was (just like Shiegano Honda, Major) but they didn't say it was phantom or gyro so I just thought that Mihashi's throw was kinda special because he wasn't coach. I am not a baseball expert but I do know some terms. As for slice of life and realistic. . .I agree with you there too but somehow it comes off a bit like fantasy yet not because of the exaggerated expressions of everyone. . .you know the bird, fish, puppy, duck expressions to convey their emotions? hehehe, and I keep expecting for the unexpected because this is such a new team. . .Shoot! I don't know what I was trying to point out. .. Just that it realistic yet not? Sheesh, I don't know if anyone can clarify or know what I am trying to say.

I can't wait to see Nishiura nine get stronger as they beat or lose to another team. =) By the way,do you play baseball? Because it seems you have good knowledge of it.

I was intrigued by the gyroball after hearing about it actually being a real pitch and read up on it a lot. It's all actually an interesting read. With all the studying of the gyroball Ive done I realized it in the first episode when Abe called the pitch low, and the pitch stayed mid level instead of dropping. The fastball can be considered a low level breaking ball since it't given a clean backspin, so batters are accustomed to the minor drop the ball takes. The gyroball's corkscrew spin is the best possible wind resistance you can get when throwing a ball, so the ball gets less friction on the way to the catcher making it stay straighter, and losing less speed in the last half of the balls trip. If the batter feels the pitcher threw a fastball, they will swing under the ball, either completely missing it, or barely making contact resulting in an easy pop up. If they think it was a slider (Due to the pitching motion being nearly the same.), they will swing wider than needed, and miss the core of the bat, resulting in no power being able to be applied to the hit, which could end up in either a short pop up or an easy grounder.

I never played baseball, and I actually dont like the sport much at all. I cant make it through an entire game or Ill be bored to tears. Anime is different though. the added story line allows me to enjoy the sport. I was an athlete, so I still follow sports closely as I watch Sportcenter religiously. And as I said, the gyroball intrigued me, so I did a lot of reading on it.

It's a very interesting read, people should check it out. www.wikipedia.org/gyroball

i agree. i love them both so i can not say that one is better than the other. Ren makes me laugh more than Goro. so over all they are both lovable.

Mihashi loves Abe , Goro loves Satoshi ... Goro usually uses fastball(gyroballs) even in the recent manga which I think is almost finished, Mihashi has many techniques in pitching he can still practice or you can see Mihashi with the body of Goro during HS ... if combine both of them then

Oofuri is for both female and male watchers, Major I think is a very serious anime for guys

major is not really realistic i mean 150km throw, but its still okay. ookiku furikabutte is more realistic cause everyone works more as a team.

Well, I guess when he was in highschool that 150KM can be kinda real and now that he moved onto Minor league and the Majors that speed can be easily reached since he can be said to finish growing and matured in experience. But tell me, a grade schooler who pitches at 105 to 110KM and can bat balls at 130KM while everyone else was in the 60 to 75KM was really pushing it. But Goro was a really typical shonen hero. He's very straight forward, all he has it going for him is power and getting better. .. beating down all odds in his perception while everyone else wants to challenge him.

Ookiku has that challenge too but more realistically and the emphasis on the team is what is really touching not only that, his development is slow and we can see it realistically while Goro to switch from right hand to left handed pitch all but took him 3 months? (not sure it could be shorter because he decided to do it while coming back to his old school then moving onto Kaido). . .Now that is super speed while in reality it takes years to just master pitches with your dominant hand let alone the other that you don't even use regularly.

What intrigues me is. .. will Mihashi get faster and stronger as he goes through this season and high school? His speed improve from 101 to 110KM, so I can't wait to see how he evolves granted the producers gives us a second , third, and fourth season.

mmm... ookiku in my opinion is definitely better than major. Ookiku has more character growth and you can see Mihashi growing not only as a pitcher and a teamate, but as a person. In major what annoyed me the most is that you would see Goro grow up from being a little kid to a full fledged adult but in every single season, he makes the same mistake over and over again and never learns from it. That's what annoys me the most. Mihashi is cuter than Goro anyway. In the latter part of the series Goro turns ugly. --_-- ... (He looked okay until he entered high school... Goro's father was kewl tho.)

ookiku is more realistic and cuter and you just want to love the characters so much. They all have their strong points and weak points and they all make mistakes but they learn from them and aren't stupid. In major they make Goro way too strong physically and weak mentally not in spirit but in intelligence. He's really brash and is all brawns over brains. He should learn to think once in a while. He's self-centered and stupid, aloof, never thinks about his poor friends whom he really owes a lot too (Toshi).. and ugh.. right. I think it's just the characters who annoy me. (sry for the rant)

In ookiku, Mihashi is really cute and while he's not intellectually the best, you don't mind it as much because of his personality. He's modest.. maybe to the extreme because he was a bit annoying at first, but he does get better and he tries his hardest all the time which is really cute. Abe is a bit self-centered but at least he fixes himself and he also learns from his mistakes. This goes for all the other characters too.

oh my i'm starting to be repetitive. I have absolutely nothing against Major other than the characters and this is entirely my own opinion.

anywho. Ookiku FTW.

he can throw that high but loses lots of control because before he wasnt throwing right(he had to balance on the log while throwing)
