Crunchyroll is Kind Of Expensive
Posted 1/5/12 , edited 1/5/12
It is expensive for me because I don't watch any anime from this site...I used to watch Gintama but I got bored. The only reason why I keep my membership alive is because my little brother watches Naruto and he doesn't work so I keep it for him. However, I would not mind paying that much money or even more for a site where I can find my favorite animes and watch good new animes at the same time.

I guess it's worth it of this is where you go to watch anime and spend a lot of time on this forum. I dont think $100 is a lot of money for a year membership, but then again there are other sources out there where you can get some of the stuff CR is offering for free.

I'd actually buy the membership, but I don't post on here much so it would be a waste of cash

CR is somewhat cheaper than buying a whole lot of box sets and DVDs. Believe me those anime DVD sets which I have to get an American-region ones are really expensive in Australia and so is the Australian box sets.Everything costs a fortune here in where I live but it is not as expensive as Sydney though.

Getting to pay $6-8 in Aus$ every month is really cheap and is really affordable, well, according to my own eyes than getting box sets of animes I want to watch every month that costs me about $400 in just a month (because I'd rather pay for the shit I want to have than to download it in a fansub version because I know it would help the industry and IDREC about the price - lol I'm an anime shopaholic [on a daily basis, all my miscellaneous budget somehow goes to that]) and I would've spent $3000 on a year alone instead of saving me some cash on hand.

I don't really give a crap about Funimation + Nico Nico /Funico because whatever they get, Madman gets (in most cases) so I pretty much idgaf but it kind of affects me because I don't get full range of anime because of them.

I completely agree with the this. I recently started collecting and I spent over $250 over the last 4 months

Well like they said- it is legal...
So I guess it's kind of worth it.
But if you buy a membership, then you have to make sure that you use it a lot so that it isn't a total waste.

I mean I get it, paying helps support the anime industry and blah blah blah, but honestly? A year-long CR membership costs $100. Do you know what I could do with $100?? I could buy a whole cosplay outfit! And sites like NicoNico only make you pay 25 cents a week to view all their content, where as if you bought a CR membership (depending on which one you get) it adds up to 25 cents a DAY.
So, everyone, what do you think? (btw if I have a star next to my name its because ppl give me guest passes.)

Actually I'm shocked at people saying $100 for a year of anime and drama is expensive whereas so many shell out $60 every week or two for a tank of gas.

Anyone thinking $100 is to much for a anime/drama membership always has the option of spending $50 for the yearly membership to either anime or drama. There are plenty of options available. There is no excuse stating it's expensive.

Sure, I could say $100 is to much when I can just go over and torrent it all for free. But that would be leeching and stealing. As for NicoNico, I didn't see much selection there, which makes me believe they can afford to be that cheap because they lack selection.

No..I mean I don't have cable so I just use online streaming sites..It's cheaper than the $100-140 bills my parents and others are paying..

So if I just got CR $11, Netflix $8, and Hulu on and off $8..I never spend more than $30 for all the tv I want a month. So I don't think its bad at all.

I'm on the monthly subscription plan for anime. I don't see $6.99 as being a lot of money to pay per month. I haven't really bought anime since they stopped selling them on VHS, so this is my way of supporting the industry.

As other people have said, use your discretion to determine what you can afford to spend money on. I love chewing gum and can easily spend $0.35 to $2.29 on it per day depending on if I get a tiny pack or the family pack which would last two or three days. If I looked at what I spent on gum a year, it probably is more than what I spend on a CR subscription for the same year.

With the exception of Fairy Tail and the old Naruto, I think you can see all of the anime that CR has to offer for free with only a 7 day delay. So it's not mandatory to get the subscription to enjoy the site.

>.> I didn't pay $100 for a year's subscription....I think I paid more like $50-$70. But it's only for the anime. Reason being, I can get some dramas on Hulu with slightly better quality. Now, if I had opted for both the anime and drama, then yeah, I'd pay $100 (give or take). They need to pay to have the shows and for the subbing (correct me if I'm wrong). Thus the money is going to multiple places.

It's only about £3-4 a month for me, so I think it's good value for money.

Whether the price of something is "worth it" to you is largely a subjective decision that you alone can make. A US$1 bottle of Evian water might not even be worth one second of your consideration if you've already got a liter of water in your pack, you're safe in your home town, and you're not feeling particularly thirsty. That exact same bottle might fetch US$10 or more from a guy wandering into civilization after a week lost in the desert, and he might be thrilled and thanking God for the privilege of paying you US$10 for that bottle, assuming you felt so inclined to take advantage of someone like that.

As it is though, CR is one of the least expensive recurring expenses I have compared to other utilities (if CR can be called that) like electricity, water, sewer, satellite TV, cell phone, etc.... For an hour or so of entertainment every day after a hard day's work, it's probably among the things I get the most value from among my recurring expenses.

I remember when this site first started and it had loads of copyrighted content for free. Not that this information helps anyone. lol

All I can say is that if you think your money is better spent other ways then more power to ya.
