When I was younger I wrote all the time. Even had some stuff published (mainly poetry and non-fiction magazine articles) long, long ago before health issues put me on the shelf. Recently, I've attempted a full return starting with anime fanfics on fanfiction.net (under the username reddawnrocker). I'm slowly but surely getting my confidence back and I've started work on an anime-related multimedia project (hopefully in multiple formats) and a couple of other possible mainstream projects in other genres.

I really enjoyed writing in school but after graduating I find it hard to stay motivated and finish what I start. I read insatiably. About one 100 pages a day from whatever book I can get my hands on. Sometimes I write short scenes from a story I have been imagining in my head for a while.

How about you. What do you do to motivate yourself to stay active in writing or does it just cone naturally.

Yeah staying motivated is hard but I think finding people to exchange honest critiques with is a good motivator. It helps you keep improving and you feel a certain happiness that your works have been appreciated to some extent.

I have a journal that i write random pieces in.. you know how sometimes your mind disappears on its own tangent, creating a story out of something you've just seen/heard etc; they all go into this journal and i use that when i have writer's block to help me think of things that momentarily inspired me, and find a way to work them into a story i might be working on.

i study creative writing at uni currently, i'm in my final year :)

I totally agree with this! there used to be a group on CR somewhere that shared pieces with each other and gave good critiques. i met a few good friends on there that i talk to outside of CR now which is great! it's since been disbanded, but maybe we should make a group of our own? its great to have support and critiques from people who are like-minded.

Looks like if you go to the groups page of your profile there's a create group button. Looking forward to what you come up with.

I write stories as much as I can since I can't stop thinking about them. I put most of them into short stories where as one I am writing into a book. The book's almost finished and I can't wait to get it published.
