I can't watch this yet because I'm too busy trying to watch all the magical girl animes. Are there magical girls in this? Do they have magical fights? If not, I'll get back to this when I'm done with LILPRI. but If you think of it like they just took the miniskirt away... no magical girls, no magical fights, one sword fight though |

Thought there was a more recent thread about this show but couldn't find it. Anyways, looks like season two is coming! Says broadcast of the second season starts in July. I hope Crunchyroll continues to get it as I love this show.

Sorry to disappoint! :( Here is the bad translation of the pertinent section: serving as general director in the "transmigration of souls Lagrangian" TV anime broadcasting of season2 starts from July Arukoto_Naikoto wrote: indyfed wrote: The fact that they changed it from 'Miniskirt Pirates' to 'Bodacious Pirates' really burns my grits, for some reason. Kind of like Strike Witches in space? |

It might be a year or two. Since this is based on the light novel series, it will depend on how much has been adapted from the 7 or 8 novels published so far. I haven't found much information on the novels, but here are the titles of the first 7: http://www.animevice.com/miniskirt-space-pirates-light-novel/15-395/ Based on the arcs done so far, I'm fairly certain that at least the first 3 books have been adapted. I'm not sure how the current arc fits into the books, but perhaps there is still enough material for a second season. I guess it really depends on how this season ends. |

I have the first eight light novels and am reading them slowly. Everyone saw above that I should not read Japanese quickly or I will get it wrong, sigh...
Love the show and the novels though. Great space opera, fun characters, neat setting. |

Did you order them Amazon Japan? I'm tempted to order them myself, but I'll have to wait until I can really afford it. I agree: it's great space opera. I love this series, but I think a lot of people were expecting an action series with lots of fan services, so they ended up disappointed. |

Yes, from amazon.co.jp and yes with a name like Bodacious Space Pirates you expect fan service but instead it is a cute series / space combat. I really like it but may not be everyone's cup of tea.
Reading Level isn't too hard, lots of dialogue. Some furigana... Just a few pictures so it is not Manga. |

Time for some piracy! Well, it looks like the series is over. I can't say that this is a hit smash of the season or a complete flop. I enjoyed this series especially the unique theme of space pirates involving Marika and some of her adventures from school girl to captain extraordinaire. Anyways, interesting anime and looking forward to a season 2 (if it'll ever debut) and the movie that will debut in the future. |

From what I have seen, it appears that the season takes us through the first three of the novels, then episodes 19-26 are all original story by the director. Sato-sensei hinted at his talk at Anime Expo that there is more to come after the movie, at least if this is translated correctly:
Q: Welcome to the states, Sato-san! For the end of episode 25 of Bodacious Space Pirates, I did enjoy the cliffhanger, but I would like to know - is the show gonna have a second season, or maybe an OVA series? Sato: If you watch the last episode, you will find out." Q: Will there be other media - like novels - to further explore the universe of Bodacious Space Pirates? Sato: "Again, watch the last episode. But the main story WILL end in some format. Then after that, you will have a surprise." |
