I have one of the fastest internet connections a private household can buy here in Switzerland (100Mbit down/ 7Mbit up) and my PC is powerful enough to handle the latest games so there should be no bottleneck on my end but I can only stream 480p smoothly. 720p already stutters without waiting ages for it to buffer and 1080p is just not usable.
This is quite disappointing for me. I'd love to see some improvements regarding the streaming speed.

That may not matter. Your connection is rated to your ISP, not to the internet itself. The content comes from a Content Distribution Network (CDN) called Limelight. They claim to have local streaming servers located at over 900 ISP/Providers around the world. But there's a lot more than 900 ISPs in the world. The people who have the best experience are the ones where limelight has servers in their ISP's data center. They never have to go onto the public internet to actually get the show.

I wish 1080p didn't make the videos mess up on my computer. It's nice for those who can make use of it, though.

Another looks so amazing in 1080p, thank you very much. I consider Crunchyroll to be like ABC, CBS, or NBC for anime. It's all about presentation if an anime is presented well on Crunchyroll there is a better chance I would buy it on dvd/bluray. I bought the first season of Sora No Otoshimono, Fairy Tail, Squid Girl because I had such a good experience on Crunchyroll. I would say if a series was on Crunchyroll and I liked it the better the chance I would buy it on DVD/bluray. The only thing that I have bought from funimation that wasn't on Crunchyroll was probably Baka and Test and only because I saw it on Netflix. If things do well on Crunchyroll I think there is a better chance that it would do well on dvd/bluray in my personal opinion. I can't wait for Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka? to come out, that is another thing that I love that was on Crunchyroll. That's my personal opinion for what it's worth.

I like the first episodes of Future Diary, but I could not stand Niconico and/or funimations player so I couldn't watch it all, I had such a bad experiance I don't think I would buy it, well until it gets on Netflix than it would have a better chance. That's just my personal preference, or Crunchyroll is becoming insidious and anything that is not as good as Crunchyroll is tainted in my eyes. That being said Netflix is the gold standard, Crunchyroll must be as invasive as Netflix. If Crunchyroll gets on ps3 and Xbox 360 like Netflix there would be a massive jump in membership that is where the gold mine is, Crunchyroll won't be as big as Netflix but instead of 70,000 members, 300,000 to 500,000 members would not be impossible. Then Crunchyroll can go to Japan and take the money left over after paying the licensors, and invest in anime that can appeal to mass markets, and isn't so niche. (moe, lolis, etc.) Family Guy just made a jab at japanese watching anime girls having sex with octopuses, maybe we would see less of that here.

Yeah, it sounds like the most likely bottleneck is between your ISP and the closest CDN server. If there are too many dropped packets or too much packet delay and the rtmp buffer empties out, it wouldn't matter how fast your system is or how fast the connection between your computer and your ISP.

I keep being automatically renewed as a member to support CR, but I can no longer even stream 480p at my location in a major city. We have the highest residential service sucky Comcast provides, but streamed movies and anime and even YouTube hang at times. Seems like all the bandwidth is going to very expensive business accounts... Sorry I can't take advantage of CR benefits... I'd be thrilled just to get 480p for my membership! *cries*

Perhaps you should consider giving DSL a try. It may have a lower advertised speed, but I've found it to be very solid and reliable.

FYI, at least in my area, you don't have to actually be a business to get a Comcast business class account. Here, they'll apparently gladly take the money for a business class account from an individual.
