I keep being automatically renewed as a member to support CR, but I can no longer even stream 480p at my location in a major city. We have the highest residential service sucky Comcast provides, but streamed movies and anime and even YouTube hang at times. Seems like all the bandwidth is going to very expensive business accounts... Sorry I can't take advantage of CR benefits... I'd be thrilled just to get 480p for my membership! *cries*

That...sucks. I hear you with Comcast. I have a multitude of truly absurd stories with them. In my area, good workers, *horrible* headend and truck roll management. Customer service is usually set with rules that are just roadblocks to actually serving customers.

I rarely have issues with CR or Hulu, but YouTube usually is hit or miss.

Maybe you've already looked into this, but if not--Does speedtest.comcast.net show you are getting the advertised rate you are paying for? Are you all wired or wifi? If it's really them and not your equipment and setup, then call them and complain. And if they can't fix it, go to a lower bandwidth plan, because you're paying for something you are not getting and which they have no incentive to fix if you keep paying for what they are not delivering.

Also, point your browser to 192.168.100.1 and make sure your cable modem's power levels and signal ratios are correct. There are guides online that'll tell you what they are supposed to be (usually dslreports if you search 'cable modem signal levels comcast'). Check these at different times of the day too. Comcast once upgraded lines in my area which ended up putting too much power into my own line during certain times of the day--internet would work, then not, then work, then not, then tv would fritz...that was really fun figuring out.

It seems my Internet can handle it, however my tiny little 1.5 GHz Netbook cant. haha oh well I'll just stick to 720p.

You know what you have, but if not, while higher end netbooks certainly can, most netbooks typically only did 1024x600 (720p needs 1280x720 at least). It'll display either way, just you won't be getting the full effect. You might have a newer/higher end one anyways given it's handling the 720p stream so you might have the denser screen.

The average full size laptop, for example, still usually only has 1366x768 and can handle 720p but won't display 1080p. Even the next step up, 1600x900, won't handle 1080p on the laptop's screen. Of course they make 1080p (and higher) screens for laptops, but I find it surprising that it's not more standard even on higher priced laptops.

Fortunately, I watch all my Anime on a Cray computer that I had built for me when I was a Futures trader so this cheap 1080p upscale plays out just fine for me. Liquid cooling and all that.

What, the Kindle can't downscale 1080p onto its 600p display? Yeah, then just pick 720p.

There's only one display in our house that could show 1080p HD, and its not hooked up for Crunchyroll. My bedroom TV is a 720p 11", and my netbook and my nook are both 1024x600. But then, when they open up the Roku to higher resolution, that's when I'll get my piece of the action.

That may not matter. Your connection is rated to your ISP, not to the internet itself. The content comes from a Content Distribution Network (CDN) called Limelight. They claim to have local streaming servers located at over 900 ISP/Providers around the world. But there's a lot more than 900 ISPs in the world. The people who have the best experience are the ones where limelight has servers in their ISP's data center. They never have to go onto the public internet to actually get the show.

Thank you (and agila61) for the info. I looked around on their website but it doesn't look like they have a published list of all the ISPs. So I can just hope that they either improve their network here in Switzerland or CR switches CDN providers. Sadly neither sounds very convincing for the near future... so 480p it is :/

Actually, BasouKazuma had mentioned CR does plan on switching their CDN in the near future.
