@neutral_eyes I can both see and hear the difference and do not start an argument over who's right here

lol, CR never even had 1280x720 (yeah, that "720p" option was just 1280x720, but it looked like crap compared to a dvd or some other sources), this "1920x1080" is a joke. this may be a resolution of 1920x1080, but there is no gain in quality unless you stream in a higher bitrate. i just wish the 99% of educate themselves about the media they consume and learn to see past the deception.

This is just on the PC, right? I think the Roku channel is still limited to 480p.

The irony is that you'll actually be streaming it at a higher resolution that most of it is produced in. Personally, I would have preferred 10-bit video or a higher 720 bit rate to fix the banding issues that plague any dark scene on a show streamed on the site.

Bootleg viewers who download files ripped from 1080i broadcasts claim that 720p is sooooo bad and so Crunchyroll offers 1080p.

If backgrounds are scanned in at 1080p, those with the TV's to see it and the bandwidth to support it may see a bit of a difference. I'm just happy that the complainers have to find another complaint.

Who's starting arguments? I can see the difference too; I even posted it here:

Not sure if you picked the best pictures to illustrate the difference, but cool.

Just because there's a difference doesn't mean it isn't simply a glorified upscale.

You bad Crunchyroll, you are really bad.

I don't see the technical side of all this. But it's an upgrade is it not? 1080p from 720p cannot be worse off. Even just a bit of difference is difference enough for me. Why would CR make that claim and not follow through. It seems pointless and illogical.

Guys here's an upgrade in name only???

I will see the difference myself. PS I regularly would voice my yearning for CR to stream in 1080p. I wouldn't be surprised if this happened because of me being born and help of my input.

Be grateful to me.

further investigation shows, Photoshop shows that these 2 images are exactly the same.

i encourage your guys to verify it yourself.

edit: this might just be an upscaled show, so if there really is an actual show on CR that is better ill test it too.

edit2:

i really looked at the files pixel for pixel and there is a difference, mostly around the edges, yes better, but not really much better than normal dvd quality, let alone retail bluray.

more data

this is the difference of the first set

I can play the 1080p videos but they look just like the 720p videos. Does this mean my screen does not have 1080p?

No, it means you've realized the futility of upscaling 720p.

I have to say, the 1080p videos run much better than the 720p ones. It seems like the same quality though. I don't mind since 720p looks fine.
