Crunchyroll does pay to get streaming rights to the videos on their site. It's the silly idea some people have that because a couple of users have copyrighted images as their avatars, CR will get taken down. Most likely, CR would probably get notified by the copyright holders (if it ever happens) and will take action against the user (such as deleting the avatar/scans/links). I mean there's no reason as to why they would not follow a CnD order from the rights holder since they would lose a lot more if they take no action. These companies have a lot more to worry about than users who decide to use a fanart of their creation as an avatar, such as websites that are making money off of their materials (music, manga, anime, games, etc.) without permission. Oh, oh - I see. That's silly. CR will not get shut down over something so trivial. To nitpick about such tedious things is ridiculous. |

You do know that ACTA was formed by both JAPAN and the U.S. in part to protect intellectual property. If you put a little thought into it after reading all those news stories about Japanese police arresting people for uploading manga/anime/games, etc., you'd think that Japan itself is against piracy. I mean they already send CnD to manga sites and take down videos on Youtube so yeah... they hate you too. Try harder next time though. |

Care to share some links about the government wants information from Twitter and Facebook? It's not like Facebook doesn't already give away your information to other companies anyways. Wikileaks also endangers our informants in other countries, provided a list of high value infastructure vital to our economy, damaged relations with other countries by exposing private conversations (Such as the use of an airstrip in another M.E. country who publicly has not shown any acceptance of U.S. military presence in their land and those cables revealing the exchanges between our diplomats), posses a risk to those deployed in the M.E., and possibly undermined any operations that were taking place during the leak. It also seems that you don't understand how much of an impact that piracy has on the median as a whole. It must be nice to ignore all those articles about how people get jailed, fined, etc. and think it's just a "small thing". Making millions off of other peoples works without permission is nothing, right? |

What I don't understand is why CR didn't go offline before they went legit 3 years ago. I remember those days.

@joshrl This thread is months old. SOPA died in January. Why are you digging through the old sections of the forums?
