Err... I dunno, kinda self explanatory.
I guess something that will benefit someone or something.

Then your knowledge of Pokemon is useful, since one benefit from that sort of knowledge is you exercising your memory. Another benefit is that knowledge will give you an advantage over someone that doesn't have it during your Pokemon battle.

Meeeeh, I'l believe it when I see it. And as for the advantage thing, just because I know about something doesn't make me good at it.

Philosophy is only useful for teaching philosophy. Which would be a pretty sweet job. Graphic design is OK, as long as you are talented enough to stand out. The best paying jobs are in finance. The best jobs in the future are always in medicine, technology, science and engineering.

Yes, arguing is what they do best. I don't think there is any harm in taking some philosophy courses, maybe as a minor. If nothing else it does teach critical thinking skills.

That won't get me rich or famous, therefore it is useless.

Oh, come on. Yeah, I agree, useless for that endeavor.

I sense that you're the type that likes to argue.

Lol at the philosophical arguing!

Anyways, has anyone here majored in or studied Landscape Architecture? I'm really interested in the works, hearing they spend lots of time in the office/computer/designing. But the work they do, is it anything like playing The Sims while doing math homework?

Philosophy can be a helpful major if your intent is to go into law school. There are some arguably better choices, but there are a lot of far worse choices for that career path. It teaches critical thinking, rhetoric, and even how to construct and present an incredibly persuasive if rather fallacious argument.

In general, any major can be useful if it's something that you truly enjoy and you start setting things into place to actually do something related to said major (even if that 'something' is teaching). Where you start having truly 'bad' choices in regards to getting a major is if you pick something because it seems kind of cool, and an easy major. In which case, sure, you'll get your degree, but nobody will care -- including yourself. If you're really, truly enthusiastic about your major, go for it, even if it does seem 'out there.'

I mean, unless your #1 priority in college is sex and partying. In which case, hey, whatever.

Currently I'm studying physics, and I've heard a physics degree is not as useful as you might think. Basically, the only career options are research and teacher. And by research, that often means doing so at a university, which feeds directly back to teaching (as a professor). Still, I love my major, so I'm not about to change it just because something like Mechanical Engineering is more useful.

Actually, the degree in Philosophy isn't worth getting, but being able to understand how argument works is useful. Once you get your computer programming or whatever job with your real degree, you find yourself in lots of meetings...

Landscape Architecture is sort of like making sure to plan projects while making sure their measurements are to scale. Basically, they plan the layout of cities, roads, new houses / apartment complex, etc. Not a very exciting job, but if you like to plan and do minor calculations of space it should be a good match.

Nursing is also a pretty good occupation to get these days. Alot of companies and hospitals have an urgent demand for nurses from what I've seen or been told.

I feel like posting intelligent posts again... after all the boob, bewb shit on anime forum.

To add to this actually a shortage of male nurses are quite high, due to the high demand in physical strength a nurse needs in order to fully help the patient as the country of America is slowl... steadily getting heavier, sadly the shortage still persist as nursing isn't viewed as a "mans job". I should add the wages for nurses is quite high and most will get hired with a 3-4 year RN degree.

Totally forgot the topic at hand

Art major... you're only famous artist if and only if you die and after hundreds of years or so will you be recognized as a good artist, but by that time you're dead and most art history classes will say "he.she was one of the greatest artist of X century *proceed to talk about art style* it is an honor to have kept his work"

Just gonna throw this out here...

There is a difference between useless and unprofitable.

While I certainly wouldn't recommend someone go out and get a philosophy major on non-frivolous-spending money or loans, it isn't useless by any means.
