After some angry comments by some Hollywood bigwigs and Chris Dodd (MPAA chairman) over the delay of SOPA/PIPA, there is now a white house petition to have the MPAA investigated for bribery. In case you were wondering Chris Dodd is former US senator who repeatedly promised that he would not become a lobbyist when he retired from the senate but ended up taking a job at the MPAA anyways.

Recently on FOX News former Senator Chris Dodd said (as quoted on news site TechDirt), "Those who count on quote 'Hollywood' for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who's going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake," This is an open admission of bribery and a threat designed to provoke a specific policy goal. This is a brazen flouting of the "above the law" status people of Dodd's position and wealth enjoy.

We demand justice. Investigate this blatant bribery and indict every person, especially government officials and lawmakers, who is involved.

What really gets me is that they don't even try to hide it anymore. Seems like a stupid thing to do.

I know, right? I know that's why I wrote to my congressman: the thought of not being able to go to Crunchyroll and manga websites pissed me off!

UK had a bill passed not long ago, and it would target torrent sites and those who use it (at first, then move to direct downloads), I believe it was meant to have started spring 2011 (or was it 2010?). Anyway, it passed when it was Labour, but since the Conservatives took over they haven't cared about policing much. Cuts in police budget, speed cameras went off in many places as a result (they do profit the government but the money goes straight to the coffers rather than police budget so they couldn't afford to maintain them).

I entirely agree with government cuts even if it's the police. But when they also did to education they fucked up good.
