I agree with Exbi. It depends mostly on the people who are in the relationship and how much they trust each other. How much time that takes is up to.......well....I guess fate.

Don't get married, it's the second biggest mistake you can make!

I wouldn't give it any set time frame, and for me personally, that would be something I discuss with my partner long before I even consider proposing. Just so long as it isn't rushed, neither partner feels pressured into marriage, and both partners feel confident and ready. Regardless of whether one likes it or not, marriage changes the dynamic of a relationship, and often that is a change for the worse because of the aforementioned rushing and pressure. Plus, with marriage comes certain expectations, more so from the people around you than just your partner, which can put on a lot of pressure. Then again, my parents got married a year after they met, and after over 25 years they're still so good together and lovey dovey, it's disgusting.

Well one sister of mine got married after only knowing the guy 3 months, the other about the same amount of time... they both regret the decision and now feel stuck.

My thing would be to be with the person for as long as we want to be together without an engagement or marriage commitment... if it kinda turns into one of those "we've been together 6 years we might as well be married", then fine let's make it official in the eyes of the government. Marriage itself holds no real special meaning to me, especially on the religious side of it because I'm not religious.

I just don't understand why two people can't be honest and realize that love probably won't last forever, and after a certain amount of time of falling out of love the world apart from what you know becomes too "scary" and you might as well stick with what you have. I think two people can just be together and don't need to continue to make increasing levels of commitment past living with one another (kids are more of a commitment to the kids themselves).

But my arguments and opinions are so wishy washy that if I was with someone long enough, probably minimum of 3-4 years, they could talk me into doing it... I still wouldn't think the ceremony has any meaning and certainly isn't worth the life savings some people spend on it... but I'd probably do it.

It depends on the two people, some could be together for years and still not be ready for marriage. But I think a good minimum is at least 6 months, because if the wedding is 6 months to a year away at least they'd be together for a full year before getting married and got a chance to know each other better.

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 6 years now since we were 17 and don't plan on getting married any time soon it's not that we don't love each other because we do very much it's just it's not that important. When you love somebody and they love you back and you know you're right for each other I don't think you have to sign a document to validate it. You love each other and for me that's enough

Hahahaha. Let me think that through. I suspect my wife won't let me. Divorce is soooooo expensive nowadays. I guess I'm "taken".

The other take on this question was from decades ago: signage reads: "Christ is the Answer." Scrolled in graffiti ink immediately below was the message "What was the Question?"

I think that the question would be "God, what should I do???" You know...a lot of people ask that.
If "Christ is the answer," just follow his teachings and everything should be ok.

I never heard that old signage from decades ago. I'm only two decades old!

EDIT:

ok. i'll continue the real topic.
This one dumb kid told me that you should wait two weeks before popping the question.

Wow, what a question. I waited 4 years before I was married.

This person asked me why I pulled over at the bus stop, took out my imaginary golf club and ball, positioned the ball, hit it, the imaginary ball got into the imaginary hole after the first imaginary swing, and I shouted "FUCK YEAH!"

By then we had 2 people running.

I, then, instead of replying, looked at her waved my hands around my head and said something like "aguguaugdaudgugdssgddsg, RUN AWAYYYYYY!" got into the car, and fucked off.

Duh.

Nah, just kidding, there were no people running, they all just stared.

Oh sorry wrong thread lol
