I just want to get a general feel for how depressed the average anime fan is.

Be honest with yourself.

I'm a 4 most of the time while occasionally drifting into 5 territory. I think most 5's wouldn't care enough to even look at the forums or have any sort of interaction with people. I know I get like that at least.

I use it quite often, actually.

I am a very introverted person but that does not by any means indicates that I am a depressed person. In fact, it's quite the opposite. At times, I think about what the astronomically odds were of my existence coming into being and I just feel so lucky that I am alive. I am grateful for each new day that comes my way and I never let hard times get me down.

I don't recall ever connecting introversion to depression myself, though I know that there are others who might see it that way.
As for feeling lucky to be born, I don't get it. Yes, the odds of each person being born among all the other sperm might be astronomical, but that's the case for 7 billion other people in this tiny speck on the edge of the galaxy. If the odds of something are astronomically low, but you give it an astronomical number of tries across an astronomical amount of time, can that really be called lucky? Isn't its happening sooner or later just the expected result?

I'm not trying to put down your happiness or whatnot. Though not very successful at it myself, I am a believer in enjoying the little things that happen around you each day. It's just that the whole "lucky to be born" thought doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It's always sounded like it's just an excuse to be happy by someone trying to hard to make themselves or someone else feel better.

It's alright man. You didn't put me down or anything. Admittedly, I was surprise that you went through the trouble of leaving me a reply and a long one at that. I didn't see this coming at all since most people don't even bother to respond to my comments but I appreciate your taking the time to share your opinion with me.

In regards to my previous post, the whole "lucky to be born" thing is only one little aspect of why I love my life. I could write a 20 page paper on the hundreds of reasons for loving my life, but judging by your earlier post, I am fairly certain that many of these reasons would only come off as cheesy or lame to you and I think that both you and I can agree on that. I believe that this is one opinion that is deeply sown into who we are. I am an optimist. You are a realist. That's just who we are and I'm cool with that. Just keep "enjoying little things" my friend.

I also wanted to apologize. I wasn't aware that "lucky to be born" was a cliche. Sorry about that.

3. It's like my heartbeat, most of the time it's steady. But it rises up a lot, and falls down a little.

The worst times are when it's below the median (usually after reaching its peak, it goes down dramatically). But oh well. That's just life for me.
