Synopsis:
After Kageyama (Sakurai Sho) journeys to Hong Kong to make his annual report to Hosho Reiko’s (Kitagawa Keiko) father, a charred body that appears to be the world famous artist Matsushita Keizan is discovered within the jurisdiction of Kokuritsu Police Precinct, which has not had a big case in a long time. Inspector Kazamatsuri Kyoichiro (Shiina Kippei) hastens to investigate and is more hyped than usual. As the studio was destroyed in the fire, it is explained that Matsushita had sprinkled kerosene and set himself ablaze. But the faint-hearted Kazamatsuri makes no attempt to identify the body. Reiko does it and finds a ring on Matsushita’s finger which commemorates his graduation at the top of his class from an arts college. Kazamatsuri, who learns that a vein authentication system was set up in the studio and no one but Matsushita could come and go, declares to the media that it is a murder in a locked room. It is a locked room, but because it will not function without vein authentication of the living person, it is probably not a murder. Reiko and all at the precinct confront Kazamatsuri, and the discovery of a note drives him further into a corner. After questioning the parties concerned, Reiko returns home to find that Kageyama has return. When she shares the discovery of Matsushita’s burnt body with him, he shows her the Matsushita Keizan collection in the Hosho family’s art space, and suspects that it was a suicide in a locked room. Reiko mocks Kageyama because Kazamatsuri had said the same thing. Kageyama’s pride is hurt that he should be considered equals with Kazamatsuri. He presses Reiko for the details of the case in his determination to unravel the mystery. Kageyama ends up settling on the conclusion that Matsushita killed himself. Reiko, who is about to go back to dinner, recalls another big case that she starts talking about. That is the story of a sudden office excursion to Okinawa at the suggestion of Kazamatsuri … …
