When I travel to neighboring countries, I get mistaken for a Thai, Malaysian or Indonesian. No surprises there since we do look quite a lot like our neighbors. Personally, it's a big advantage when I go shopping in Bangkok because the sellers will think I'm a local and they would not jack up the prices so much. The only problem comes when I start speaking.

I've travelled all around Asia and I've been mistaken for Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Malaysian, Thai, and of course Filipino. What's even worse is that Filipino can't even tell that I'm Filipino until I speak to them in Tagalog.

I haven't in abroad but my sister in US based is mistakenly of a Spanish. There's a time that shE GOES shopping on spanish store and the attendant who's a spanish speaks to her a spanish. My sister smiled at her and says " I am Filipino".

Maybe sister is dark curly and have a white complexion so she's mistakenly to a Spanish. However, if i am going abroad I am mistakenly for Iranian or Arab coz I have a brown complexion, with dark eyebugs and long nose.

I'm usually mistaken either Chinese, Japanese, Korean (not as much) and since I live in a Thai neighborhood, Thai...

I don't really get annoyed... If they don't know I'm Filipino and can understand them the more the better you get to gossip :3 lol

I'm only part Filipino, but I get mistaken as Caucasian, and when I was younger I used to get mistaken as Hispanic.

I'm very rarely identified as a Filipino when people first meet me. It's usually Chinese or Japanese (not sure if I can pass for either lol). One of my co-workers is Korean and he added something new: he said I could pass for a Korean. I just shook my head in disbelief

I guess you could say I'm one of the lighter skinned Filipinos, so people mistake me for other ethnicities. The most ridiculous one I've heard is Korean since I'm not even that fair at all! And I don't have their eyes. Usually, people just can't tell what I am, so they think I'm a mutt. LOL

I'm often mistaken as Viet, Lao, Thai, even Hispanic.

I like it when customers start speaking to me in Spanish. I just stand there and stare at them with a smile on my face and say "No hablo espanol" (probably not right, but it reinforces the point). Some laugh but most get ticked off.

Then when they see my name badge... that's a different thing. Confusion, theories, and other nonsensical stuff start being exchanged.
