Views on Moe (spoilers)

I bump into a lot of different views on the meaning, but they all refer to cuteness.

I see some anime that are frequently considered moe, but some of them seem creepy in a bad way, some are a bit more psychological.

I do not understand why the character and series Haruhi Suzumiya is so great, she is very suggestive in a negative fashion towards Mikuru and if she does not have her way, the universe goes bye-bye.

Now for more psychological ones: I imported Amuri in Star Ocean and realized that the three young protagonists were treated as inferiors because of being different, not that different from X-men and prejudice in the real world. There was a positive recollection of my youth in the characters, but they had suffered in ways that compare to the real world, just like real kids.
In Cardcaptor Sakura, some say that Sakura is one-dimensional in thinking, well, in one episode she is torn between letting The Dash escape and thus her friend would still have her pet while unknowingly cheating in a race, OR fulfill her duty and capture Dash, this would make her friend sad, but the race would be legit. Sakura blames herself for not being strong enough to restore Yue's energy, leaving Toya without magic, but Yue reminds her that she is not perfect in episode 66 I believe.

To sum it up, on my end, Moe means that a character has instances of innocence and sadness with child like traits.

I link moe with being "air-headed" with a loli build. Its noticeable in animes when the guy suddenly shivers and have a look of blessing on his face after hearing the female talk or move i guess

Moe is the combination of adorableness and innocence that causes you to want to dote on or protect a certain character. To me, the goal of the "Moe Character" is to make the viewer feel sympathetic to them and cause an emotional bond/attraction towards the character. This many times evokes paternal/maternal/fraternal instincts in the watcher or reader that keeps them watching or buying that series. The companies make more profits and the authors make more money.

In short, moe makes business sense which I why we see so much of it these days.

萌え(もえ/moe) : an infatuation (not necessarily romantic love); to sprout/ budding

Moe as a Japanese slang term mainly means to have an infatuation (not necessarily romantic feelings) with a character because of design (mainly). It doesn't really describe, but if you were to describe what is "moe" characters then that is a different topic. It's mostly about the obsession.

The term moe, we came to know today, is derived from the same kanji and word meaning to sprout or grow. Moe is mainly associated with characters that are still in their adolescence or has the potential to grow. This is really how the term came to be today.
