After watching several episodes of REBORN, it gets really annoying especially the leading boy, he just wont stop whining. But basically the story is lame imao. Although i love GINTAMA, but Shinpachi almost aiways shouting in every episodes,he really gets into my nerves after awhile. And lastly THE MELANCHOLY OF HARUHI SUZUMIYA, i really hate every dumb character in that show.

You have Bleach as your favorite.
You obviously don't watch anything for the story.

One piece on the other hand doesn't bother with these kind of fillers.

Because it's faithful to the manga 90% of the time.
I don't see how anyone could have a problem with that.

I mean, sure normally
they try to make it seem as if the characters in the fillers actually do something of meaning,
but mostly its something they have already done a dozen times before.

Prove it.

There really isnt any
furthering of the plot.

It's called a filler for a reason.

I want to actually see plot and character development and this does
happen. There is plot development in One Piece, but only about once every 30 or so episodes.

One Piece does have plot and character development.
Have you not been paying attention to the show, AT ALL?

And really. A Bleach fan talking about plot?
Are you kidding me?

This represents and extremely LOW ration of plot to series length. Which to me makes the series
unwatchable.

Now you're reaching it.
What kinda bullshit.

if given a choice, I would rather watch a 12 episode anime
in which the plot and the characters make great strides forward in EVERY episode

Ladies vs Butlers, Princess Lover, C cube, Dragon Crisis, Kore wa Zombie Desuka, Sacred Seven, etc.
I could go on but you probably get the point.
Not every anime with few episodes are good.

It really doesn't depend on the length to be honest.
It depends on the show itself, it's that simple.

rather than
a 500 episode anime in which the dilute the story to such a low concentration that it is almost
beyond human perception.

Seriously. This coming from a BLEACH fan?
I'm hollering.

Chrome_mist: lol @ response to a compaining about one piece dragging on. by a BLEACH fan of all people.

personally, i happen to love Bleach and One Piece (and Naruto too.), but yes, it does get a bit frustrating when after (what feels like) 5 minutes of really intense thrashing around, suddenly you're waiting a week again for the next ep.

one the other hand: Ladies vs Butlers, Kore wa Zombie Desuka... i love those two as well. short, to the point, but not to be taken seriously. just lots of fun.

anyways.. BACK ON TOPIC....

what really annoys me, off the top of my head are 2 things.

1; deliberate willful blindness to options that would actually resolve the conflict.
--ie; rather than pause for 2 minutes to listen to the explanation of WHY the poor boy is hovering over the half-naked girl in such an awkward position, immediately commence combat or flight.
--FLIP SIDE: when the idiot in the position to explain the situation just chews on his tongue, moans and whines, and keeps squeezing that breast instead of fixing the situation
(also applies to all kinds of situations that may not involve scantily clad girls in compromisng positions, but lets be honest about the medium we love -- this is a really unnaturally common occurance, no?)

2; Active Inaction (excessive angst and wailing leading to not actually doing anything while still being extremely busy and noisy)
--ie; not just explaining what needs to be done.. but yelling and screaming about it for several minutes, without actually doing it. Prime offender: Gantz. everybody standing around, while the enemies squish everyone around the heroes, while screaming "Everybody! Shoot them! we have to shoot them! We can't survive unless we all work together! Come on everybody! We have to do something! etc etc"
omg, just shut up and actually shoot them.

...actually, just any kind of crippling angst just drives me batsh*t insane. because it usually combines with #1; deliberate ignorance of the fact that if you actually DID something, it would all end up resolved.

... in the same vein, harem animes. despite the main character REPEATEDLY proving he ranks somewhat lower in perception than a common household brick, all the girls still keep trying to just subtly hint at him. should anyone of the girls ever break thru that barrier, then HIS inability to act comes into play dragging it out.

i really loved how they completely turned it on its head in Ichigo 100%. (awesome series, if you like high school/romantic type shows)

It isn't the fact that One Piece is long that makes it annoying. Length simply isnt a factor.
What IS a factor is what I think of as the Story to length ratio. How much plot are you getting
per episode? or to be more generous, per arch?

I watch anime or, any medium, for the story, the plot. The character development is a form of
story so that is why i have no problem with a filler that is written by the author and has the
characters talking about something meaningful. By my own, somewhat arbitrary definition,
this kind of filler isnt a filler all, but development of a different aspect of the story.

One piece on the other hand doesn't bother with these kind of fillers. I mean, sure normally
they try to make it seem as if the characters in the fillers actually do something of meaning,
but mostly its something they have already done a dozen times before. There really isnt any
furthering of the plot. This irritates me for the very fact that I love the story behind One Piece,
i really do. therefore, I want to actually see plot and character development and this does
happen. There is plot development in One Piece, but only about once every 30 or so episodes.

This represents and extremely LOW ration of plot to series length. Which to me makes the series
unwatchable.

THAT is my opinion. and that is also why, if given a choice, I would rather watch a 12 episode anime
in which the plot and the characters make great strides forward in EVERY episode rather than
a 500 episode anime in which the dilute the story to such a low concentration that it is almost
beyond human perception.

It means it's too long, and I agree there comes a point in a story where you just want something to happen.

OP can get repetitive, btw like 650+ manga chapters in and they are just barely half way over the grand line.....

I think I understand what you mean about the shower scenes, but would you mind terribly posting one of the scenes ur talking
about?

Shall I go on?

(For those interested, from the top down: Code Geass, FMA: B, Clannad, Rurouni Kenshin, Code Geass, Durarara, Gosick, Inu x Boku, Toradora!)

btw, let's everyone remember, this isn't an anime bashing thread...just talking about annoying anime stereotypes/tropes. Everyone has different tastes, and we'll never all agree.

Ok I don't get why people bash One Piece all the time seriously. I used to dislike the series, but never bashed it. Honestly if One Piece was short, it wouldn't make sense. I mean a trip around the freaking world is not going to take 12 episodes idiots...

Anyway I'm going to add to the Tsuna hate. He is a stupid main character. He does nothing but whine...

I have been watching Detective Conan and caught up recently and it kind of (but not really) annoys me that most of the mysteries are murders. At least they try and keep it interesting with all the different ways people get killed though...I think Aoyama Gosho is a serial killer though. How else could he create all these different ways to kill people

Perhaps you might try not taking everything I said so literally and out of context.

I apologize for making you think that bleach was not as guilty of all these sins. I do.

I agree with you completely that Bleach does drag on just as much as One Piece. However I still like the stories in both of these animes. I just really wish they didnt try so hard to dilute the story. Bleach's, One Piece's and even Naruto's stories, at their core, are greatly moving and inspiring stories. I just believe they are being smothered. thats why I stopped watching all of them. I read Naruto and Bleach, but I am just too impatient with any of those animes.

Nowhere. I repeat nowhere did i make the assertion that the length of a series was a direct contributor to the quality of a story.

Yes, I agree completely. anime bashing was not the purpose I had in mind for this thread. I just wanted to be able to talk about the use/misuse of story telling tools in anime.

I apologize to all for using one piece as the example too much, it made it seem like I was bashing it. Which I was not!

I FUCKING ENJOY ONE PIECE!

*ahem* thanks for that. and yea, a lot of anime have that too. Really good anime too, not just silly ones. I mean, FMA:B, Code Geass and Durarara! are all in my top favorites. lol

I guess this just has to fall under the broad category of fan-service lol

Everyone's probably going to hate me for this but Cowboy Bebop gets on my nerves. I have yet to say, "I can't wait to see what happens next" because there is hardly has a continuous story. If I wanted a series that has episodes in which the stories hardly relate, I would watch American TV. Sorry Bebop lovers.

These are the ones that I can't stand:
Save Me Lollipop
Hetalia
Omamori Himari
Black Butler
LilPri
Durarara!!

These aren't animes, but I don't like these either
Homestuck
My Little Pony

I basically don't like generic animes. It has nothing to do with how popular they are, either. If I don't like the storyline, then I'm not gonna keep watching it. *shrugs*
