Odagiri Joe to star as rock musician and father in drama series “Kazoku no Uta”

Actor Odagiri Joe (35) will star in a Fuji TV drama series this spring, titled “Kazoku no Uta.” The series will be broadcast on Sundays at 9:00pm, beginning in April.

Odagiri plays the role of Hayakawa, a rock musician who was once extremely popular but who has now faded from public memory ever since his band broke up 13 years earlier. His only regular work that remains is a 30-minute live radio show early in the morning and occasional fan events.

One day, he encounters three young girls who are his daughters, and he ends up having to live with them. However, he can’t let his situation be publicly known, especially to his record company that wants to find a way to end its contract with him. Through his living with the three girls, Hayakawa matures as a person and as a father.

Yusuke Santamaria plays Hayakawa’s manager, while Kanjiya Shihori plays a photographer named Yoko who secretly has feelings for Hayakawa. Otsuka Nene plays Asako, a former photographer who is like an older sister to Yoko and who is familiar with Hayakawa’s glory days as a musician.

The three actresses playing Odagiri’s daughters have not yet been announced.

Odagiri Joe to become a father of three in new drama, ‘Kazoku no Uta’

Fuji TV has announced that actor Odagiri Joe will be starring in a new drama called ‘Kazoku no Uta‘ next season.

It will be the seventh drama in Fuji TV’s relatively new drama time slot of Sundays at 9:00 p.m.; ‘Kazoku no Uta’ will also mark Odagiri’s drama premiere on the network.

He will play the role of the once-popular rock musician ‘Hayakawa’, who’s been gradually fading into obscurity after the breakup of his rock group, ‘out of justice’. One day, he suddenly has to take care of three junior high schoolers who also happen to be his daughters.

After ‘Hayami-san to Yobareru Hi‘ and ‘Marumo no Okite‘, ‘Kazoku no Uta’ is expected to become another heartwarming and exciting family drama full of hardships, laughs, and love. Aside from Odagiri, the cast is also said to include Yusuke Santamaria (who will play his manager), Kanjiya Shihori (a photographer who falls in love with Odagiri), and Otsuka Nene (a former photographer from Odagiri’s golden days and the older sister of Kanjiya’s character).

So what happened to Odagiri’s group, ‘out of justice’?

The band was quite popular back in the day, achieving million-sellers during their peak. ‘Hayakawa’ (Odagiri) had a lot of fans thanks to his perfect combination of good looks and witty comments — he even topped the ranking for ‘the man you want to sleep with the most’. But 13 years ago, the group broke up after a big fight, and he’s been fading into obscurity ever since. The only thing that’s left from his time as a star is a 30-minute-long radio show at five in the morning and some occasional fan events.

Another thing he’s kept since the peak of his popularity is his weakness for alcohol. This is especially a big problem, since he always sleeps with the next best woman whenever he gets drunk, followed by a complete blackout the next day.

But ‘Hayakawa’ will have to change, as he suddenly becomes a father to three daughters in junior high and ends up having to live together with them. If this situation were to get leaked to the public, his record company would certainly terminate his contract. As such, ‘Hayakawa’ will be forced to hide their existence with various excuses.

Having to be the father of three girls eventually helps Hayakawa to finally grow up more, and before he knows it, he starts to grow a deep bond with them.

The three child actresses who are going to play his daughters have yet to be announced.

Fuji TV to change parts of Odagiri Joe’s upcoming drama ‘Kazoku no Uta’

On February 24th, Fuji TV’s president Toyoda Ko mentioned at a regular press conference that they would be making some changes to the upcoming drama ‘Kazoku no Uta‘, in which Odagiri Joe will be starring in.

The network was forced to make arrangements to the plot after they were hit with plagiarism accusations. It seems that there are too many similarities between the upcoming project and the 1987 TBS drama ‘Papa wa Newscaster‘, which was written by Ban Kazuhiko (‘HUNTER’, ‘Deka Wanko’, ‘Nagareboshi’). It also was Ban himself who brought up the issue on twitter.

In ‘Kazoku no Uta‘, Odagiri plays a former rock star who has been fading into obscurity since the breakup of his band 13 years ago. He had been living a life full of alcohol, women, and some occasional fan events, when suddenly he finds out about the existence of his three daughters. The former rock star has no choice but to live with them, and must figure out a way to do so without anyone finding out about their father-daughter relationship.

‘Papa wa Newscaster‘, starring Tamura Masakazu, portrays the life of an unmarried newscaster who lived a life full of alcohol and women 12 years ago. It isn’t until later that he learns about the existence of his three daughters. He’s forced to live with them without anyone finding out.

Ban tweeted, “Can this really just be a coincidence?” “Protagonists who hold a secret is nothing uncommon, but hitting on women when they are drunk, suddenly learning about the existence of three daughters and forced to hide it all from the public? It’s impossible not to see the similarities.” He added, “If there is going to be a trial, please come to the hearing.”

At first Fuji TV didn’t seem to be bothered by the accusations at all, and emphasized, upon approaches by reporters, that it’s an original script by Sakai Masaaki (‘Zettai Reido’, ‘Tokyo DOGS’, ‘CHANGE’). However, they soon softened their tone and revealed that they were going to discuss the matter.

According to people from TBS, the producer of ‘Papa wa Newscaster’ and Fuji TV have been in direct contact to discuss the situation, and that Ban has received a personal explanation from Fuji TV.

With today’s official statement by Fuji TV’s president, they won’t have to drag this conflict into court, but the production team of the drama now has to review the script and redo several scenes.

According to sources on the staff, the production team will have to deal with more than just a few parts within the script, and is currently at a loss about how to change them.

Additionally, it seems like that one or two of the child actresses, who were going to play the daughters, have also suddenly rejected the casting offer – forcing the team to find replacements fast.

It’s not yet clear which parts of the story will be changed to erase some of the similarities.

‘Kazoku no Uta‘ is scheduled to air on Fuji TV every Sunday at 9:00 p.m starting in April.

Saito Kazuyoshi to provide theme song for Odagiri Joe’s new drama

It’s been revealed that Saito Kazuyoshi’s new song, “Gekkou“, has been chosen as the theme song for Odagiri Joe’s upcoming drama, “Kazoku no Uta“!

“Kazoku no Uta” is Fuji TV’s newest drama that will air in the ‘dramatic Sunday’ time slot (every Sundays at 9:00 pm) starting April 15th. It’s a human drama that tells a story of a former rock star named Hayakawa (Odagiri), who has been completely forgotten from society since the break up of his band. One sudden day, he finds out that he has three daughters and has no choice but to live with them.

Other cast members include Yusuke Santamaria, Kanjiya Shihori, Nakajima Kento (Sexy Zone), Tortoise Matsumoto, and Otsuka Nene.

‘Hayami-san to Yobareru Hi’ special episodes to replace ‘Kazoku no Uta’

Fuji TV seems to have pinned their hopes on Matsushita Nao to revive their Sunday drama time slot just in time for the upcoming summer season.

On May 18th, they announced that they are going to bring back the drama ‘Hayami-san to Yobareru Hi‘ starring Matsushita with two special episodes after cutting the disappointing ‘Kazoku no Uta‘ down to just eight episodes. ‘Hayami-san to Yobareru Hi’ had just aired during the winter season with a decent average rating of 10.5%, which isn’t a very high rating, while ‘Kazoku no Uta’ seems unable to climb above 4% anymore.

Fans of ‘Hayami-san’ might be afraid that it could just be a two-episode summary of the entire plot due to such a short notice, but Fuji TV explained that it will actually continue the story. The story began with the incapable Yuriko (Matsushita) marrying Kyoichi (V6‘ Inohara Yoshihiko), the eldest son of the Hayami family, without knowing that she would have to deal with all the housework and adversity of the Hayami family’s all-male household. By the end of the drama, she had grown into a very strong woman and wife.

In the two special episodes, the relationship between Yuriko and Kyoichi gets tested with the sudden appearance of Kyoichi’s former girlfriend, played by the beautiful Uchida Yuki, after 10 years, and the bond of the Hayami family is shaken by the revelation of an unthinkable secret. The rest of the Hayami family will once again be played by Funakoshi Eiichiro, Kaname Jun, and KAT-TUN’s Nakamaru Yuichi.

Matsushita commented, “I’m really happy that we’re able to bring back ‘Hayami-san to Yobareru Hi’ like this. I once again would like to work together with everyone in perfect harmony, and depict a heartwarming family drama.”

The two special episodes of ‘Hayami-san to Yobareru Hi’ will replace ‘Kazoku no Uta’ on June 10 and 17.
