Eyes are fragile. The fluids around it aren't just lubricants, they're also protective. If you start doing it on purpose then turn it into a habit you must be one hell of a fool.

i went through a period of about 6 months were every couple of day i would sleep with my eyes open. i found it most disturbing because i would be able to see my room in my dream but i would keep zooming in and out on curtain place around my room and then going into a dream then as i moved around in bed my dream would suddenly bring me back to my room then i would go off into another dream, i know it doesnt sound it but it was horribly freaky. i often used to think of the experience as like a non scarey nigthmare as both dream and reality murged into one
