A person with character defects, he is cranky, caustic, temperamental, cynical, proud and spendthrift; loves money, prestige and women. Because of that, he has the worst reputation within the legal profession. But he has never once lost a case and will do whatever it takes because of his conviction that “winners are right”. The people around him are skeptical of his way of doing things. However, Komikado gradually realises that his vision of justice is a pipe dream, and begins to remember the spirit of fighting and not giving up that he had forgotten. Mayuzumi Machiko (Aragaki Yui) is an earnest rookie lawyer who has a strong sense of justice and is passionate about the socially vulnerable but tactless and inflexible. A strange turn of events result in the two of them working together as colleagues, but the two of them fight like like cat and dog, and clash over almost everything. Click to show or hide Sakai Masato & Aragaki Yui to star as lawyers in new drama ‘Legal High’ Fuji TV has just announced another new drama for the upcoming spring season titled, ‘Legal High‘. This new drama will star actor Sakai Masato and actress Aragaki Yui as lawyers who aren’t really that fond of each other. ‘Legal High’ is an original and thrilling comedy written by popular scriptwriter Kosawa Ryota (the “ALWAYS” series). The title “legal high” means “to get high on law“, which is a direct hint at the main character, lawyer ‘Komikado Kensuke‘ (Sakai), who cannot get enough from using the law at his advantage in the courtroom. Komikado comes from a 3rd rate university, however, he passes the bar examination and opens up a law office. Komikado is an absolutely arrogant and eccentric fellow who loves money, fame, and women more than anything else. His wicked tongue is something else, much to the despair of his very serious colleague ‘Mayuzumi Machiko‘ (Aragaki). They fight at every opportunity, but as usual that seems to be the perfect flowerbed for a gradually growing love. Despite Komikado’s arrogant nature, he’s working under the honorable creed that a lawyer should always work in the best interest of his client. He simply knows how to exhibit his abilities in the courtroom whenever things are looking bad and in his career has won every single lawsuit. Sakai commented about why he accepted the offer, “The script is just too interesting. Furthermore, it’s my first time working with Aragaki. I want to work as hard as I can and hope that will be enough to keep up with her energy.” Also appearing in the drama will be Namase Katsuhisa as the former boss of Komikado who is now the head of a major law office, Koike Eiko as Komikado’s secretary, and Satomi Kotaru as the clerk for the odd jobs in Komikado’s office. For Satomi this will be his first Fuji TV drama in 15 years. ‘Legal High’ is going to replace this season’s ‘Strawberry Night‘ in the popular 9:00 pm time slot on Tuesday. Its first episode will air in April.

She will play the ex-wife of Sakai Masato (38). Suzuki will play Keiko, the ex-wife of the protagonist Komikado. Keiko is a lawyer who has never lost a case and previously worked at the same law firm with Komikado. She chose, after enduring months of the failed marriage, to move to the United States to practice international law. The episode will follow the divorce proceedings of a famous couple. Komikado will represent the husband, while Keiko will represent the wife. The fierce courtroom battle between the former couple will unfold in the episode. Suzuki, who has not costarred with Sakai since the 2004 NHK Taiga drama ‘Shinsengumi!‘, stated with a bitter laugh, “I needed to work at ‘full throttle 10 times (more)’ than in my normal roles,” but commented that “Working with [Sakai] granted me an enjoyable filming experience.” Sakai also commented on the excitement of the acting battle with Suzuki. “If I were to speak about unmerited honor, this would be the perfect example.”

She will be cast as a waitress wearing a light blue outfit for numerous scenes in the episode which will feature the final confrontation between rival lawyers Komikado Kensuke (Sakai Masato) and Miki Chouichirou (Namase Katushisa). In addition, Komikado's assistant throughout the series, Mayuzumi Makiko (Aragaki Yui), has gone independent, and she too is determined to defeat Komikado.

The drama began its run with 12.2% and soared to its season-high of 14.5% in its 8th episode before ending with an average of 12.5% which places it 5th among the Spring 2012 dramas.
