Do you think adults are so self-centered and such?
Posted 3/19/12
Trying not to become one of those adults? Really, you make me laugh. Just take a look at your attitude as you complain about adults.

I think the ones who are self centered are the kids that cry emo when their parents scold them for having bad grades

well first of all if anyone is self-centered, it's definitely kids haha. and second of all, it's just human nature to be inclined to put yourself first. cut the 'rents some slack dude, they're people too

The irony of this thread is quite amusing. Ahh just imagine finding your posts 20 years later...or better yet your kids digging up your long lost posts...

I guess they think, since they've experienced more of life, they believe they know more/ are more wise than the next generation. But that's not necessarily true, thus us kids/teens think they're being self centered when they try to apply what they think is right onto us, and what WE do is not as correct as what they think is right. I'm not raging, just putting in my 2 cents

OK, maybe I should at least try to be a bit more constructive considering the age gap between posters here. The moment you discover that the world doesn't revolve around you and your hopes and dreams doesn't suddenly make everyone else self-centered. Take a moment to think about what self-centered means.

I'm going to guess any "adult" you're talking about has had quite a bit of this happen to them. Being laid off even while the company posts record profits, being fired for doing the right thing, having someone you care about die in your arms, having a lover betray you...life has its happy moments, but it certainly has painful ones too. You make the right decisions and sometimes bad things happen. You make wrong decisions, and sometimes you're rewarded. Age brings with it a certain degree of cynicism, yes, but it also provides some wisdom and distance from things that when you're a young are quite new.

I didn't teach for very long, but even during my short stint as a professor, I watched the same patterns over and over again. I don't want to take away from the fact that people are indeed quite unique...but don't think you're the only teenager who had a pure heart and the best of intentions but was completely misunderstood by the cruel, unfair world and parents who, despite the fact that they often (not always, granted) fed you, clothed you and took care of your education for better or worse, (people aren't perfect, and kids don't come with instruction manuals)are somehow are so selfish as to not care about you or your aspirations.

Maybe it is the lack on concrete examples, but this really sounds like a spoiled child who discovered that the world does not, in fact revolve around them.

We're not perfect so deal with it, in fact if I ever have kids I'll be sure to give them lots of tough love so that they could live their lives motivated and filled with resentment of me. Sooner or later they'll disown me and I'll disown them and then they'll go on living their lives.

In the end parents are nothing but the children's past while the children are suddenly the fucking future....gawd I hate kids, making me feel so outdated by the decade and generation, and I hate old people for constantly reminding me what is in store for me at the end of my life.

The term adult is worthless.

Very very few people ever actually mature, the rest are just giant children who are exactly as irrational as you are.
